Pura Tomosky Obituary

Tomosky, Pura "Pury"

Pura "Pury" Concepcion Tomosky, 78, of Vestal, originally from san German, Puerto Rico passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2016. Pury attended the private school "La Immaculada" in Santurce, Puerto Rico before moving to Binghamton in 1955 and graduating from Binghamton North High in 1957. She was predeceased by her parents, Juan and Antonia Velez; sisters, Ladis Stockton, Soccorro, Julia, Lourdes, Felecita and brothers, Louis, Bruno, Nicholas, and Benito. She is survived by husband, Waldo "Wally" Tomosky; sons, Eric (Kat) Tomosky, Christopher (Kim) Tomosky and Kirk Tomosky; grandsons, Kyle Tomosky, Corey Tomosky, their mother, Renee and Noah Sassman; granddaughters, Chelsea Block, Katie (Mike) Maye; great-grandson Isaac Maye; special nieces and nephews, Perl (Charles) Duncan and James (Sandra) Seaman and several other nieces and nephews in the United States and Puerto Rico. Pury worked for several years in the offices of Buckingham Manufacturing, IBM, Lourdes Hospital and Wilson Memorial Hospital. Her first love was caring for both her close and extended family as well as helping special friends. Pury often created extravagant holiday dinners for up to twenty five people which typically started at 3 PM in the afternoon and lasted until 2 AM. No one was allowed to leave without trying the appetizers, consuming at least three items from the main course, and several from the dessert table; yet no one was allowed to wash a single plate. She loved camping and drove the "shopping bus" through small hamlets in New York and Pennsylvania with two special friends; Judy Kolb and Doris Lyon. They knew where every garage sale, flower garden, antique shop and craft factory was located within fifty miles of wherever their camping units were parked. Pury was one of those special people who would do anything for those who needed help. Anyone who casually mentioned that they needed help found themselves in the whirlwind of Pury who accomplished the task before they even knew what was happening. Those with problems always received a patient and sympathetic ear, never any advice unless they asked for it, and all of that was followed by a sincere and loving hug. Everyone loved Pury even during those later years when she could no longer speak or hug. Family will receive friends on Monday at J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc., 150 Main St., Johnson City from 4pm-7pm. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday at 9:30am at St. James Church, 131 Main St., Johnson City with burial in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please feel free to donate to the Alzheimer's Association or other cause of your choice. Online condolences can be left for the family at www.jfricefuneralhome.com.

Wally and family, my deepest sympathy in the passing of Pura. There is a big void now in all your lives. Draw on God's strength and the many memories you all have. Wally, I recognized her picture instantly and had to look in my yearbook even before I read the obituary. Pura was in the Jan. section and I was in the June section of 1957 BNHS. She was a great woman. Praying for each of you. Gene Johnson, formerly Binghamton, now Lancaster/Lititz PA.
