Richard DeCerbo Obituary

DeCerbo, Richard V.

Of Endwell/Binghamton, NY passed away peacefully at the age of 83, on August 17th, 2012. Richard was pre-deceased by his father, Peter; his mother, Antoinette; two brothers, Michael and Anthony; and his wife, Patricia Ann. He is survived by his sister, Carmel Dorazio; sons, Mark DeCerbo, Christopher DeCerbo, Joseph Mariani; daughters, Susan Loomis, Lori Jones, Katie Grayson, Stephanie Rodriguez; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and former wife, Marilyn Green. He is also survived by his loving companion, Sandra Lee Englehart. Richard was known for his "gift of gab", an ability that surely helped to advance his career with the General Electric Company. During his 46 years with the business, Richard was promoted from working in the mail room in his home town of Schenectady, NY to Manager of Contracts at the Johnson City, NY Aerospace Division. He was a member of GE's ELFUN Society, and was very proud of the over 800,000 air miles he logged in during his career. An avid NY Yankees fan, Richard loved playing baseball and golfing in his younger years. The bulk of his adult life he was kept busy working to provide for his family, but in his later years he enjoyed vacationing and time spent with his children and grandchildren. He was an ever-present, strong and dependable Father. He will be missed greatly by all who love him.

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, September 15th at 9:30am at St. Joseph's Church, 231 2nd Street Scotia, NY. A graveside service will take place at Riverhurst Cemetery in Endicott, NY, on Saturday, October 6th at a time to be announced. You are a very sweet man and I know where my husband's sweetest qualities come from. I will miss your birthday poems and your incomparable humor. Always a lover, not a fighter, but you had a very sharp wit and could battle with the best of them in a BS contest. I love you and will miss you greatly. Love, your daughter-in-law, Sandy

To the Decerbo Family,

Dick was a great neighbor of ours on Highview Drive. He always wanted to know how everyone was doing. We were all sad when he moved to Binghamton. We knew he missed us because he sent us Chirstmas card every year. He was a great man and will be sadly missed. With deepoest sympathy the Wilber's.

My deepest condolences to Dick's family. He was my first manager at GE and I could not have had a better mentor. He taught me well and I am where I am today because of the solid beginning he gave me. He had a serious side when needed, but his humor shone in all he did. Although have not seen Dick on over 25 years, I have of though of him. He was a wonderful person, a great manager and he will be missed.

Uncle Richard, you like Uncle Bill were a loving, nurturing, funnny, wonder uncle who will be sorely missed. We are so happy that you were able to celebrate Kay's birthday with us in Las Vegas. I loved your humorous speech, and your innate ability to draw a laugh at the most unsuspecting times. I have so many wonderful memories of you from from my chilhood to the present. You were a true legend, one who will be etched in my heart forever. RIP Uncle Richard. I love you!

My Father was no ordinary Man, he was an extraordinary Man, Father, Husband, GrandFather, Uncle, and friend to many that loved him so dearly. He loved and cared for his Children and Family so deeply, and our childhood memories will live forever in our hearts, mind, and through his beautiful smile. Although we are sad he has passed onto a better place, we will miss him dearly and Love him always ?

Dear Mark, Chris, and Sue,

I'm so sorry to hear about your father's passing. All the fun times we used to have with him: following Mark's band around, going to concerts, Easter in Schenectady to name a few. I can still hear your father at high school basketball games yelling for me to shoot! And the time he made me climb a ladder as he held it upright in your front yard - he said that I would never make it to the circus unless I climbed to the top! He will surely me missed. I will keep all of you in my prayers.

To Sandy and all Dick's family,
I have to admit that seeing this on-line came as a heart stopper. You just always picture Dick as a "live wire". You know when I say that Dick was a character, it is said in a good way. It was always an adventure working with him at GE. It has been many years since seeing him; but, the memory is very vivid. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you.
