Robert Ebert Obituary

Robert John (Jack) Ebert, Jr.

Endwell - "We're supposed to take care of each other." This is the guiding principle lived by Robert John (Jack) Ebert, Jr. Jack entered into his new life Friday, February 9, 2018. Jack was part of the fifth generation of his family to be born in Oswego, NY, joining them on January 19, 1943.

Jack was predeceased by his father Robert, and his mother Hazel, his sister Patricia, and his brothers William, Frederick, and David. Left to miss him is Cheryl, his wife of 42 ½ years. Sharing the loss are his brother Tom, sisters-in-law Geordie and Paula, his children Robert, Matthew, Jennifer and her husband Tom Turck, and Amy (Stone), grandchildren Daniel, Michael, Samuel, and Audrey, and Mohamed and Mary Afify (brother and sister by choice), Elodie, Serge, and Mathilde ( his family in France), as well as a large extended family.

Proud of his Catholic school education, Jack graduated from Oswego Catholic High School and Fordham University. He honored his father by dedicating his career to the car business, managing Ebert Buick in Oswego for many years before moving to the Southern Tier in 1978, where he quickly became respected for his professionalism and seasoned instincts for that business. He was most pleased when he could find the perfect vehicle for a friend. And his friends were many; "Everybody knows Jack" because he always stood out from the crowd.

Jack could be counted on to be available with his backhoe, trailers, snow plow or many power tools, and his clever solutions to challenges. He was a most reliable volunteer, stepping up to every request. He loved to host a good party with Cheryl, the many gatherings at their cottage, the decades-old, bi-weekly poker games, and, most memorably, his "Irish Wake" celebration of life on his 70th birthday. A testimony to Jack's imagination and talents is the cottage that he and Cheryl designed and built at Thunder Lake, their "Paradise Found".

Jack will be remembered for his honesty, dignity, unique humor, courage, quiet devotion to his faith, and loyalty to his commitments.

Deep appreciation is extended to the staff at Susquehanna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where Jack was given professional care and loving comfort. These health care workers perform a demanding job with patience and cheer.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday 9 am at Church of the Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis Street, Endwell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main Street, Endicott Friday from 4-7 pm. In Jack's honor, reflect on your life's blessings with gratitude, and, in lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 212 N. McKinley Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760.

'Well done, good and faithful servant!" - Matthew 25:23

Cheryl, Jack was a wonderful neighbor to all of us at the lake. He will be sorely missed. I will never forget the day he rescued me and Bruce with one of his vehicles, as we tried to spread our new driveway with only hand rakes. May he rest in eternal peace.

Mark and I are so sorry for your loss. Jack was an amazing man. We were so fortunate to have him as a neighbor and a friend. He was such a kind, loving and giving man. We will never forget his ready smile and willingness to lend a hand whenever we, or anyone else at the lake, needed help with something. He will be remembered with great affection by all who had the good fortune of knowing him.
Our heartfelt condolences to you and your family.
