Anne UNGER Obituary

Anne Unger died on May 5th, aged 95, in Forestville, California. She grew up in Missouri, attended Bryn Mawr College (1939), and the University of Minnesota (biophysics). She moved to Washington, DC to work in the Naval Ordnance Laboratory. In 1944 she married Leonard Unger and joined him in his Foreign Service career, living over the next 40-plus years in Rockville, Maryland; Trieste and Naples, Italy; Bangkok, Thailand; Vientiane, Laos; Taipei, Taiwan; and Lexington and Belmont, Massachusetts. In 1989 they returned to their Rockville home, before their final move in 2000 to northern California to join their children. Leonard died in 2010. Anne is survived by five children, ten grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Anne was able to thrive, whatever her circumstances. She was a gifted and sincere conversationalist, invariably interested in everyone, with a large circle of friends and acquaintances. She always believed that, with her inquisitive mind, she belonged in the Age of Enlightenment. We are grateful she waited for our more modest times.
