Anton Woltering
January 21, 1931 - May 27, 2020
The family of Anton Woltering are saddened to announce the death of their beloved father on May 27, 2020. Anton Woltering, a
German immigrant, lived the American Dream. He was born January 21, 1931 in Ahaus, Germany. As a young adult, he became a mechanic and later a master mechanic. One week after his 28th birthday, with $50 in his wallet, he headed for San Francisco, California to a sponsored job at a Volkswagon dealership. He told his mother that if he wasn't able to go visit every two to three years, he would move back. Fortune did bless the ever optimistic Anton such that he was able to regularly visit his mother in Germany, and as Anton's family grew, he and his children were thereafter fortunate to spend summers with their large extended family in Germany.
After working for others, Anton decided to open his own auto repair shop in the early 1960s, called A & E Motors in San Rafael, California. Later Anton renamed his successful shop, which he later reopened and renamed Anton's European Car Service. In 1961 Anton married his German sweetheart, Ursula Elisabeth Rademacher, and together they raised their three children; Anne, Petra and Ralph, first living in San Anselmo and later moving to Sonoma in 1972. After commuting for a year between San Rafael and his home in Sonoma, Anton decided that he would relocate his shop to Sonoma. To this day the shop is still open, under his former partner and now owner of Anton's European Car Service, Mark Bridgeman.
Always the entrepreneur, Anton and his partners established WKH corporation which developed one of the first warehouse storage projects in Sonoma on 8th Street East.
Anton was a longtime member of Kiwanis and 50 plus year member of the Hermann Sons German Club of Petaluma. Anton will be remembered as a hard-working, ethical, quick witted, generous loving man. He enjoyed traveling, playing dominos, Skatt and rolling dice.
Anton Woltering passed away in his longtime Sonoma residence on May 27, 2020. Anton is survived by his three children: Anne Nina Woltering, Petra Woltering Essery (Mike Essery) and Ralph Woltering; and his grandchildren: Dakota, Skyla, Cody and Tristen.
