James Daw Obituary

It is with broken hearts we announce that our Big Jim has gone to be with his parents Denny and Tweet and brother John. James Mervyn Daw died on November 24th, 2018 at the age of 68 after a long, hard fought illness. Born March 16th, 1950, Jim was a native of Santa Rosa and graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1968. He proudly served in the United States Air Force and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. Jim was an owner and operated Sonoma Title Guaranty, a family business started by his grandfather, working there for over 40 years. After retirement from the title and escrow industry, he was office manager for the NorthBay Vet Center. Jim loved boating, water and snow skiing, fishing on the Klamath, Leave it to Beaver, Elvis and The Beach Boys. He was a true car guy and Formula One & NASCAR fan, as well as the multi-time Caesar Off champion. Jim relished his trips to Donner and to his favorite perch above Lake Tahoe. Jim was a fun-loving father, always taking his kids to the lake to water ski and coaching soccer, little league and softball. He was the greatest Papa ever to his grandchildren for not long enough. He enjoyed spending time swimming and playing pinball with them and attending their softball games and bowling tournaments. Jim will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 49 years, Kathleen and his children, Jill (Curtis) Woods, Jared Daw, and Jenna (Darin) Ruggles. Papa leaves and will be fondly remembered by his precious grandchildren, Ashtyn & Rylee Belle Woods and Kaitlyn, Clara & Cody Ruggles. Jim is also survived by his beloved brother Jerry (Adele) Daw, as well as countless loved family and dear friends. Our hearts are heavy, but we will always remember Jim for the constant laughter and fun he brought into our lives. Words cannot express how awesome Big Jim was or how much he will be missed. DAW!!! A celebration of life will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, woundedwarriorproject.org. Jim Daw

Dear Kathy, It was with great sadness I received the news of Jim's passing. I'm so sorry for you and your family. Though we saw each other rarely, I always enjoyed our times together and looked forward to the next occasion you would be in Tahoe. Having known Jim since I was 8 years old, he holds a special place in my heart as a childhood buddy. His big grin and welcoming nature are the first memories that come to my mind. I will be making a donation to Woubded Warriors Project in his name. May Christ's comfort and love be with you all during this season.

The most fun I have had in my life were times spent with Jim when we were young. Boating, skiing, bowling, baseball...always an adventure, always too fast. Jim had me skiing on the moguls when I was ok with the bunny hill. We were skiing down the channels to get the smooth water. Only with Jim. I miss these times and regret losing touch with Jim in later years.
One time, probably after a baseball game ,Jim was giving me a ride in the transmission, his p.o.s. Chevelle, when we saw Jill on the sidewalk with some friends. We stopped and Jim talked with her for a minute and then we took off. Right before he stomped on it I heard Jill yell, Jim!
Peel out! I'm sure she knew she didn't have to say that.
I will always think of these times and always miss Jim.

We were so saddened to read the news of Jim's passing. It is our
Regret that we did not keep in touch more throughout the years. Kathy and I shared a apartment while Jim served his time in the Airf Force then I was fortunate enough to be apart of their wedding.

I am so sad to hear this news! I met Jim when our family moved to Santa Rosa in 1962? When we attended high school together he always sat behind me alphabetical! We had the best time.. I remember his laugh; his smile; and how kind he was ! My whole family loved Jim! He was special and could light up a room! Sending much love to the entire Daw family. I am so sorry..I will miss him..

Jim was the best! Always will remember him with that big grin like he was enjoying his own private joke at our expense. He was the boss of all bosses, kind and understanding. He will be missed by all. Wenda Jane Coffey

I started STG when I was quite young and I have never again had a boss like Jim that cared for me as a person as well as an employee. I will miss him and remember him fondly always.
