Martha Faust Obituary

1934-2008, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2008 after a long battle with ALPHA-1. Martha is survived by her long-time partner, Steve Machol; her children, Sharon Cohn, Rebecca Faust and Cynthia Faust; her sons-in-law Allen Grover, Pete Coleman and Bruce Cohn; her grandchildren, Vallerie Cohn, Jessica Marquez, Tasha Cohn, Ayesha Faust, Mark Grover, Max Grover, Ella Coleman and Grace Coleman; her brother Mark Huffaker and sister-in-law Carole Huffaker; her nephew Steve Huffaker; and her cousin Rochelle Rutledge. Martha was born in Stockton, CA, daughter to Dick and Alice Huffaker. She spent the summers of her youth in Tahoe where she grew to love the outdoors. Martha was part of the first graduating class of Chapman University in Orange, CA. While at Chapman, Martha met and married her husband, Matthew Faust. They then moved to Boston where Martha taught children in 1st through 4th grade. In 1964, Martha settled in Santa Rosa with her young family. In the early 70s, Martha co-owned the famous Carmel Corn Store in Coddingtown along with the quaint Wash Tub Laundromat in Santa Rosa. From 1974 to 2000 Martha devoted her work life to the Pearsons, Drs. Kent and Clare and children Kathy and Kent Jr. This family she cherished. Martha's role as Mom was job one, but she was also a teacher, a soccer coach, a Campfire Girls leader, a hiker and backpacker, a tennis player, an avid reader and knitter, a business owner, a volunteer, a keen card player. She loved Steve's roses and sense of humor, she taught every grandchild how to play a mean game of cards, she was the epitome of class and dignity, she saw the beauty in each moment with her loved ones, and she never missed an opportunity to wrap a new baby in one of her handmade blankets. Martha was, above all, the biggest fan of each of her children and grandchildren. Nary a game did she miss; she was always found on the sidelines cheering on her loved ones. Her love and support for her family and friends was tireless and true. She will be profoundly missed and forever in our hearts. An immediate gathering to celebrate Martha's life will be held in a private home on December 24, 2008. For more information, please call Rebecca at 707-548-9478, Cynthia at 775-588-3033 or email Sharon at [email protected]. For those who cannot attend due to holiday plans, we will also host a gathering on Martha's birthday, February 22, 2009 at her long-time home on Somerville Road. Please call the above numbers for details. At Martha's request, kindly send donations in lieu of flowers to the ALPHA-1 Foundation, 2937 SW 27th Ave., Suite 302, Miami, FL, 33133-9836. 100% goes to research for ALPHA-1. My sympathy to the family of my Aunt Martha Faust. I remember her as a young girl; did not see her after I was older. My cousin, Joan, informed me of her death and I wrote back to her some of the same words used in her obit as how I remembered her, such as classy, elegant, etc.
Again, my sympathy. Sharon, I never, forgot that suprise visit by you and your dad the day I was with my granddaughter at the clothesline! Polly Faust McMullin

I knew Martha from Sutter Hospital where we both went for our weekly infusions for Alpha One. What a kind, dear person she was! It was only today that I learned of her passing, and I will surely miss her. I'll make a donation to the Alpha One foundation in her memory.

What a beautiful, dignified tribute to Martha. It captured her very nature, true to herself and to all that knew and loved her. She was such a special lady, always a pleasure be be around. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and many friends. We've lost a treasure.

This tribute was so well written and personified the Martha I knew and loved. She was a wonderful and true-hearted person and I am so proud to have known her.
