Stephen FREEMAN Obituary

Stephen C. Freeman passed away unexpectedly on January 21, 2013 at his home in Novato, California. He was born June 16, 1949 in Stockton, California. He moved to Santa Rosa with his family in 1962 and graduated from Montgomery High School in 1967. He graduated from UC Berkeley with honors, and received a degree in mathematics and then went on to get a masters degree. He went to work as an engineer at Optical Coating Labs and then worked for 10 years at Hughes Aircraft in Santa Barbara. In 1986 he came to work at the family business, Freeman Toyota/Lexus in Santa Rosa, California. While in school he met his wife and life long companion. Together they raised two boys and took advantage of all that life had to offer. He was a devoted husband and father and a kind employer. He was a selfless man, always working hard to provide for those around him. He loved playing golf, pool, hiking, sailing, watching sporting events, and spending weekends in Tahoe. He had a love for world history and could be found watching the history channel any time the television was on. He was dearly loved and will be dearly missed by his wife Dianna, his sons Ryan and Miklos, his mother Betty, his brother Mark, his niece and nephew Tracy and Michael Freeman. He was preceded in death by his father Tom Freeman and his brother Dave Freeman. A memorial to celebrate a life well lived will be held on Sunday, February 10 at 3:00 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts in Santa Rosa. 50 Mark West Springs Road. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Wells Fargo Center for the Arts, Heifer International or the Ocean Conservancy.

Since I know longer live in Santa Rosa, but do own a home there, I check the Press Democrat every once in a while. I am sorry to read of Stephen's death as I remember meeting him many years ago at a barbecue at his parents' home when I worked with his mom, Betty, at SRJC. Betty and family, you have my condolences.

Very close friends are far and few between and a loss of a life-long friend is hard to absorb. Steve has been a close friend since he moved to S.R. in 1962. My thoughs, as well of those of my wife Mary, go out to the entire Freeman family. Cherished memories of him will always live in our hearts.
