Steven Marshall Obituary

Steven Allen Marshall
Steven Allen Marshall died peacefully at his home in Santa Rosa on January 16, 2021, at age 65, from complications of MDS, a pre-leukemia condition. He was surrounded by his loving family: wife Maggie, sons Bobby, Allen and Teddy and daughters Jessica and Abby, as well as several of his grandchildren. Steve served faithfully at Santa Rosa Christian Church since 1977, first as Youth Pastor then as Senior Pastor since 2002.
Steve was an avid worshipper and often sang and played guitar in service and at youth camps. He traveled with the high school youth choir for over 30 years, singing in convalescent and retirement homes.
He was an active member of Together In Christ, the local pastors' and ministry alliance focused on promoting love and unity within the Body of Christ in Sonoma County. Steve's heart for unity in our community and for the next generation of leaders was evident.
As native of Southern California, Steve grew up with his two sisters, Pam and Karen. As a young man, he loved surfing and enjoyed being outdoors. He graduated from Pacific Christian College in Fullerton, CA in 1977.
He married Maggie on June 3, 1978. Together they raised their family here. Steve treasured his time serving as a coach for his sons and daughters soccer, baseball and basketball teams. Over the years, Steve and Maggie opened their homes to so many individuals and families. Generous with their hospitality and service to others, they became a welcome refuge to those in need.
Steve will be remembered as a man who loved well. His grace and passion for Jesus imprinted every life he touched. He was a wise and faithful man, a 'pastor's pastor'.
Celebration of Life will be held at Spring Hills Church in Santa Rosa on Saturday May 1st at 10:00am. For additional information, contact Santa Rosa Christian Church 707-542-0872

Oh Maggie and family, I just found out about your deep loss. Steve was an incredible human being and inspiring lover of God and His people. I am so glad to have known him and to have enjoyed his teaching while we were at SRCC with you. I appreciated the encouragement I received from him and the other pastors for my Team Praise ministry and other areas of service. He was beautiful in so many ways. Jon asked Steve and me to sing a duet of "There Is None Like You." We also sang in a mixed quartet for Christmas one time.

I KNOW THIS LOSS. Fred and I married just a few months before you two and we enjoyed 39-1/2 years together. Maggie, this is a real life changer. It is a very personal journey. I know you have wonderful support and that will help. May each of you hold fast to our faithful God. I send love from Oregon.

Dear Maggie and family. I was so sorry, so sad to hear of Steve’s passing. I can’t imagine the heart ache you must feel. I met him in 1977 as my youth pastor. He truly made an impact on my life that remains to this day.
Keeping you in my thoughts & prayers. With hugs & love,
