Walter J. "Wally" LASSEN

96, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away surrounded by his family, July 5, 2014. Wally is survived by his wife of 38 years, Dolores Lassen, children; Christian Riese Lassen, Ronald Lassen-predeceased, Dianne Winter, step-daughters; Stephanie Capllonch and Melanie Gambrell; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Wally was previously married to the late Carol Lassen. Wally was born to Freda and Christian Lassen, Jan. 23, 1918, in Tomoles, Ca. where he was raised with his three sisters. Wally proudly served in the US Navy as Chief Gunner's Mate during World War II, and was a member of the original crew of the USS Missouri. He was honored to witness the signing of the "Japanese Instrument of Surrender" aboard the "Mighty Mo" that brought the historic end to World War II. Wally was the last surviving crew member of the USS Missouri residing in Hawaii. Wally's life was well lived and well loved. His bright spirit, charismatic wit, and perpetual kindness will be missed. Services to be held on Wednesday, July 16th, at the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park Chapel, Kaneohe. Visitation is at 12:00 p.m., with a service at 1:00 p.m.
