ERIC CHICK 1927-2011 Co-founder & Director of the Youth Service Center (Wylie Center) "Each person is a unique and worthwhile individual and deserves to be treated like one, by themselves and all others" -Eric Chick Eric was born in Plain View Texas to Eric and Katherine. He married Jacqueline Myers in 1949, and moved his growing family to Riverside. Beloved as "Papa Eric" to a generation of Riverside youth, he worked tirelessly for a variety of programs for troubled teenagers from 1964 through 1982. With Jackie at his side his 30 years of service accomplished many things, but he was best known for his work at the Youth Service Center. The center was dedicated to providing, "Free, Confidential Counseling for Teenagers and Their Families". The longest lasting program, the YSC Outreach Counselors still found in schools throughout the city, started out as the "Listening Ear" using volunteers as trusted listeners. Papa was the founder of this program and his legacy to the youth of Riverside. Eric Chick, husband, father, parent, trained counselor, and friend that touched many lives, specially for his 3 sons: David, Ronald, Greg and 17 foster children at Pathway House. He was a wise and patient parent who provided guidance, security, and love. His driving force was intergrity and always keeping his promise. Eric kept his promises to us and now all three of his sons keep theirs to his 9 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren spreading his moral values. His compassion, determination, and love will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A celebration of a life well lived is scheduled for 6:00 PM on Friday May 27, 2011 at The Grove Community Church Chapel. We suggest donations to the Riverside Make a Wish Foundation or other childrens charities in lieu of flowers.
