Gary Pangborn Obituary
Age 78, passed away in Menifee, CA on October 24, 2017 with his wife by his side after a long illness. Gary was born on Sept 12, 1939 in Long Beach CA where he spent most of his formative years. He graduated from Millikan High School in 1957.
He joined his beloved Long Beach Fire Dept in 1965 and was a firefighter until he left to fulfill his life's dream of becoming a gentleman rancher and moved to a small ranch in Nevada where he enjoyed raising alfalfa, cows, sheep, chickens and enjoying the life he had envisioned. After 7 years and prompting from his wife Dee the family returned to CA and located in Quartz Hill where he enjoyed real estate investing, traveling and house boating on Lake Mead.
Gary was a past member and officer of the Lancaster Elks Lodge and a long time member and past officer of the Temecula Valley Elks Lodge #2801 after moving to Temecula in 1988.
For many years he traveled in his RV, on cruises and trips to Europe while also joining the Corvette Club of Temecula Valley and also the Temecula Valley Men's Club. He remained a loyal volunteer with the Temecula Valley Women's Club's Home Tour activities.
Gary enjoyed his family, his friends and always a good time. He especially loved telling or hearing a good joke.
Gary is survived by his wife of 41 years, Dee; his children Jewel Coffman (husband Robert) of Huntington Beach, Joni Hyland of San Juan Capistrano, Gregg Bilson (wife Angie) of Santa Clarita, Renee Porter (husband Greg) of Auburn, Ca.; his brother Greg Janess of Reno, NV and his sister Loni Corbett of AZ., 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Gary was preceded in death by his son Eric J. Bilson in 1994.
Services will be at England Family Mortuary at 27135 Madison Ave. in Temecula on November 3, 2017 at 10:00 am with a reception immediately following at the Elks Lodge at 28061 Diaz Rd. in Temecula.
Interment will be on Sat., November 4, 2017 at 10:30am at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, CA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Temecula Valley Elks Lodge at the above address or to Arbor Hospice of Hemet at 890 W. Stetson, Suite A, Hemet, CA 92543.

I had the opportunity to live with my brother, Gary when I had recently graduated from high school.
By then he was a fireman in Long Beach, CA where I sometimes visited him at the station.
Gary possessed so many talents as most of us who knew him will attest.
As I look to my experience with my brother, Gary, he was probably the only person who could make me laugh, right down to my bones!
He surely earned the the saying, "Live, Love, and Laugh"

RIP Gary my older brother who was a great influence and taught me how to fish,work on cars,ride motor cycles,taught me how to drive a car and most of all the meaning of respecting people and peoples property and the meaning of fairness and how to laugh.
Always quick to lend a helping hand or a funny joke to lighten the day for so many people.
I will always cherish the times we would spend together cruising around in old 1950s Caddy's, Merc's and Chevys from Huntington Beach hamburger stands to Long Beach. Cruise through Wiener schnitzel on Pacific Coast Hwy after church with my sweet little Nieces Jewel and Joni and Gary's "beautiful wife" Anita. I enjoyed the times I would stop by the fire department if I was near Magnolia in Long Beach. He would ask me if I was hungry or wanted a cup of coffee. Never a visit went by without him pulling a joke on one or more of his fellow firefighters. Love to you..... your little brother Greg
