John Solbert Obituary

JOHN MICHAEL SOLBERG 12/25/1940 ~ 06/27/2009 John Michael Solberg of Wrightwood California, formerly of Etiwanda, California, passed away suddenly of a heart attack on the morning of June 27th, 2009. He had just finished making tea for his wife, Mary, who survives him along with his three sons and their families, Jeff Solberg and Gena Ashley of Rancho Cucamonga, Josh Solberg and Joyce Vega of Los Angeles, and Jerome and Hitomi Solberg of Berkeley, all in California. John was born in Thief River Falls, Minnesota to E. Warren and Phyllis Solberg, number 3 among 9 siblings. He grew up in Calimesa, then graduated from Redlands High School, class of '58. He was the last Postmaster of Etiwanda, and had many subsequent occupations. His brothers Doug, Bill, Phil, and Pete Solberg, as well as his sisters Karen Velasquez, Jean Albaneso, Pat Shores, and Allison Spiegel, all survive him. John was a loving husband, proud father, and friend to many - always ready to lend a hand, he had the gift of gab but also the patience to listen and learn. Being born on Christmas Day made his birthday party special. He loved baseball, cars, motorcycles, the outdoors, cats and crossword puzzles. He sufferred from dementia late in life, and did his best to keep smiling. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 3rd at Etiwanda Gardens, 7576 Etiwanda Avenue, Etiwanda, CA, 91739, Tel: (909) 463-6687. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Association for Frontotemporal Dementias, www.ftd-picks.org.
