Joseph Britt Obituary

JOSEPH CLYDE BRITT Joseph was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer in September 2007. He went to be with the LORD on August 10th 2008 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in White Plains, Georgia on August 20, 1942. He retired from RTA (Riverside Transit Agency) after working for 28 years as "Joe the bus driver". Before moving to Riverside in 1976, Clyde had a bus ministry in Los Angeles, bringing children from the projects to Sunday School. Clyde loved the outdoors. Camping, fishing, bow hunting were just some of such activities. For over 20 years he was an active member of Oranco Archery Club. Throughout the years he has played Santa Claus during the Christmas season to provide toys, clothes and food for needy families. He did this freely through the Salvation Army, the Cretia Center for Abused Children and many families he met while driving the bus. Following his retirement in 2003 he volunteered to serve as an usher and as a bus driver for the Caleb Community of Seniors at Magnolia Ave. Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Gloria Britt, and his two sons, Jody David Britt, John Thomas Britt. Two sisters, Jennie and Gloria (Sissy) Britt, and one brother, Johnny (Butch) Britt. We mourn our loss and yet rejoice for our hope is in the work of Jesus Christ and His resurrection.

To the family of Joe Britt--I'm so sorry I could not attend the funeral. I thought it would be over by the time I got off of work around 1 p.m., and no one told me otherwise. Then I came to find out that several other drivers attended the burial. I'm embarassed....
Joe was a character. One of my first memories of him was when I was a rookie in '82, and we had to drive the brand new 3000 series GMC busses up to the San Bernardino DMV for licensing. I followed Joe's bus thru the wrong on-ramp for the 215 fwy, and we had to find another way back on. I'll never know if he just blew it or if he was playing a trick on the new driver, but I laugh about it, now...
I'm a musician, and Joe is one of only three RTA folks in the 26 years I've been here, who ever came out to any of my gigs.
Joe was of a kind nature, but his irreverance was refreshing, and I'm sorry for not having become a closer friend....
Joe represents the best of the best, and in my mind, will never be forgotten.

My best wishes to his family.

Sincerely--

Jeff Dick
