Helen Jones Obituary

Helen G. Jones

September 25, 1924 - October 31, 2024

Helen G. Jones (Patricia), 100 years old, passed away on October 31, 2024. Helen was clearly the matriarch mom, grandma, and great grandma of her loving family. Helen was born in New York City on September 25, 1924 to John and Viola Bennett Gautier. She graduated from Bellport High School in Long Island, New York and spent her WWII years working at Cumberland Hospital in Brooklyn NYC. Helen was a cadet nurse in the US Medical Corp.

Helen was married to E. Roger Jones, Jr., son of Edgar R. Jones and Helena Gerow Jones, early settlers of the City of Vineland. She was very proud of her four sons, Edgar R. Jones III, Thomas M. Jones, Michael D. Jones, and Matthew A. Jones.

Helen was passionate about her music, as both a pianist and vocalist. She graduated from Glassboro State College (Rowan University), an accomplished vocal musician. Helen performed acclaimed church choir and solo choral work. Helen sang regularly with the Philadelphia Opera Society chorus and was a soloist at the Navy Chapel in Philadelphia. She taught music in the Vineland Public School system for many years.

Helen was an avid reader. After retiring from teaching, she began a writing career writing many short stories including one collection which was published. She performed volunteer work with the Vineland Public Library and the Vineland Red Cross Blood Bank.

Helen's ability to have a conversation about most anything came easy to her. Laughter along with her love of music kept her forever young.

Helen is survived by three sons. Edgar R. Jones III of Kearneysville, West Virginia, Michael D. Jones, of Cape May, New Jersey, and Matthew A. Jones of Saluda, North Carolina. She is predeceased by her husband E. Roger Jones, Jr., her son Thomas M. Jones, and her companion Adolph G. Derda. She is survived by eight grandchildren; Dr. Kara Reichart Bercaw, of Raleigh, NC., Leslie Knobbe of Omaha, Nebraska, Lt. Colonel Thomas M. Jones, US Army, retired, of Schertz, Texas, Dr. September Jones Wanzenried, DNP, of Omaha, Nebraska, Dr. Jennifer Jones Blazer, Pediatric PT, of San Diego, California, Dr. Christopher M. Jones, Orthopedics Sports Medicine, of Nashville, Tennessee, Dr. Sara Jones Burrage, of Avon, Indiana, and Seth Jones, Esq. of Greenville, South Carolina. She is survived by eleven great grandchildren; Quinn and Grayson Wanzenried, John Reichart, CeCe and Augie Knobbe, Adelaide and Thomas Jones, June and Julia Jones, James and Jacqueline Blazer.

Burial arrangements by the family will be private. Interment will be in the family plot in Siloam Cemetery.
