Herman Solof Obituary

Solof, Herman "Hy", - 102, of Ventnor, passed on December 21. Many people knew him as "Mr King," the popular owner of King Liquor Store at North Carolina and Baltic Avenues that he made into a successful local business serving the community. Living such a long life is an inspiration to all. Imagine living through so many different moments of time. He lived those years to the fullest. A very loving, devoted and dedicated family man - married to his wonderful wife Rose for 72 years - who always had a kind, funny or helpful word or story for everyone. He was a proud World War II veteran who fought in the important and liberating battle at Normandy. He was very involved with the Beth Judah synagogue and for many years led the morning minyan service. He enjoyed a very active life and especially liked deep sea fishing, photography and RV camping. He regularly attended the programs at the Beron Jewish Older Adult Services and cherished the companionship of the friends he met there. Shalom to a good soul. He is survived by his three children, Allen, Elayne Zelda, and Sandy Clott & her husband, Steve. He was the cherished grandfather of Stu Clott & his wife Nicole and Sharon Kanter & her husband Jared. He adored his five great grandchildren, Miles & Rosie, Clott and Brody, Hudson & Robyn Kanter.

Synagogue services will be held Tuesday December 26 at 11 a.m. at Shirat Hayam, 700 North Swarthmore Avenue, Ventnor. A livestream will be offered at www.JSGFunerals.com for those unable to attend. Interment to follow at Crescent Memorial Park, Pennsauken. Donations in Herman's memory may be given to Shirat Hayam or Beron JOAS, 1102 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City, NJ 08401. Services in the care of J.S. Goldstein Funeral Home & Monuments, Mays Landing.

Rest in Peace. I remember feeling such peace in your home. Thank you for sharing many wonderful stories and pictures with me about your business and days gone by in A.C. of which I had experienced the tail-end of those times. Mr. Solof and Elayne were so kind to me, and I always felt welcomed in that home. I could tell that Mr. Solof was truly a good soul, accepting all people, no matter how different from him.

Herman was one of a kind. I met HY and his sweet wife Rose in 1965 when I visited their home with their son and my buddy Allen. They both were so endearing. When Rose was baking for Beth Judah Synagogue, Allen, Harvey Needles,Gary Slocum and I would sneak in to their kitchen and eat Rose´s freshly baked goods. Hy was so proud of his fish tank. I have such wonderful memories of Hy and Rose. Everyone was welcomed into their warm home. Two great people are gone but their memories live on. Paul D´Amato

My condolences on the loss of a wonderful member of our community, who gave so much to so many, and with whom (and Rose) I have lifelong memories.

Hy was a leader at Beth Judah. I remember him as faithfully transporting in a jitney the kids from the Mainland, including our boys, back and forth to Hebrew school. They were in good hands. May his memory be a blessing. D
