When Louise called me on Sunday with the sad news of our cousin's passing, we talked about our memories of Joey. He was a part of our childhood and we cherish those memories of our summers in Brigantine. We loved that time with our Aunt Sally, Uncle Joe, and of course, Joey. Always fun to be with. Linda, Samantha and Joe, our thoughts and prayers are with you. May his love and devotion to his family bring you comfort at this difficult time. Andy and I extend our deepest sympathy.

46 years ago you were my sisters boyfriend, then as time went by you became my brother in law & friend. Then you were the father of my first Nephew & Niece. But as we grew older and wiser I realized you were not only my friend but had become my brother. I will miss our talks, laughs, the stories you told that I never knew if they were fact or fiction & my birthday buddy. Thank you for being such an important part of my life, and the gifts you brought to it.

I am so sorry for the great loss that your family has endured. I know I have such wonderful memories of Mr. Fenton from growing up, I only hope that the memories you all are sharing over the next few days, weeks, and months, bring you comfort and peace.
From our cheerleading days, to our headband ann days, to our 90210 days, Mel supported us, he drove us(sometimes both ways), he cooked for us (cheesesteaks!), he laughed at us (Im sure we deserved it!), he loved us... and we loved him. I will always remember his big heart, his quick wit, his warm smile.
I wish there were some magic words to say that would ease your pain, give you a chance to say goodbye. I am truly so sorry for your loss. Know that Mel was loved by many and so are you all! XOXO

I had the privilege of being Joe's rowing partner one summer, although with considerably less success than when he partnered with Bill. I went to grammar school with Linda and have fond memories of her too. Although I lost contact with both of them over the years I can still very much see them in my mind's eye, and hold them both in the highest regard. While Joe was a gifted and dedicated rower he was even a better person. I can still remember Joe picking me up early in the morning for practice with oars jutting out of his old white Plymouth Valiant. He would always be waiting for me with a smile and a friendly greeting. Rowing with Joe was a great way to spend summer mornings. It wasn't just about the physical workout but the many deep conversations we enjoyed together. I always thought of him as a gentle giant; incredibly strong yet with a most kind demeanor. I remember the first time we went for a “test” row together and I felt the strength of his pull. I don't think I ever heard as loud a sucking noise come out of the transom from the speed the boat generated with Joe in the bow seat.
I offer my heartfelt condolences to Linda and her family for their very sad loss.

Joe was my mascot, then my rowing partner on BCBP. His MOM & Dad {Aunt Sally & Uncle Joe treated me like one of their own kids. I have many fond memories of Joe & Linda as a young couple just getting started in life and as proud parents of two nice kids. Our deepest sympathy to Linda and the entire family.

My heart is heavy with the weight of your loss, and the grief our whole family is feeling right now. Uncle Joe, you were always larger than life to me, your heart, your soul, your laugh, your love. You were a great man, a kind, funny, and loving man, and you were so loved by so many. As I explained to Ben today, when his huge heart began aching for my grief, we will CELEBRATE your life and be thankful that we had you for the time we did. We will cry AND laugh as we remember you to each other. I love you Uncle Joe, rest in peace. Maggie, Ben, and Jaime
