Margaret Hufana Obituary

Margaret E. "Peggy" Hufana

March 13, 1935 - October 17, 2025

Margaret E. "Peggy" Hufana passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, in North Cape May, N.J. Born Margaret Eleanor Patterson in Philadelphia, on March 13, 1935, to Florence and George Phillip Patterson, Peggy was raised by her mother in Manayunk and attended Roxborough High School, along with her brother, Ross, and sister, Kathryn. In 1955, she married Lawrence C. Hufana, who made a career in the U.S. Navy. After their son, Michael, was born in 1956, they lived in several locations where Larry was stationed, including Key West and the Philippines. They also lived part of the time with family in Philadelphia and in Villas, N.J. Around 1970, they moved permanently to the family home in Villas. Peggy became a secretary at Woodbine Developmental Center, where she worked for many years until retirement. Water aerobics and water walking classes were a favorite activity for Peggy, and she enjoyed gardening and making delicious gourmet chocolates. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; her brother, Ross; and her son, Michael. She will be greatly missed by her grandson, Andrew Hufana; his mother, Amy Hufana; Michael's wife, Diane Hufana; Peggy's sister, Kathryn Doggett; and sister-in-law, Nora Patterson; along with many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held at the Cape May County Veteran's Cemetery in Crest Haven. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Cape May Cares, 639 Lafayette Street, Cape May, NJ 08204. Spilker Funeral Home, Cape May info and condolences: spilkerfuneralhome.com.

Peggy, may she rest in peace. She was a sweet lady and although I did not know her for a long time, I enjoyed her company and humor. Prayers to her family.

I knew Peggy for many years through bringing her books from the library. She was a joy to talk to and became one of my favorite stops. Peggy was smart and always pleasant even when having a bad day. I am so glad I got to know her, she will definitely be missed.
