Michael Monihan Obituary

Michael Robert Monihan

January 20, 2025

Michael Robert Monihan of Ocean City, NJ, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 20, 2025.

Michael was born in Philadelphia and lived in Ocean City throughout his life. He graduated from Ocean City High School and attended Widener University. At age 21, he earned his New Jersey Real Estate Broker's License. Following in his father's footsteps, Michael was the second generation President, Broker of Record, and owner of Ocean City's oldest continuously family owned real estate company until his retirement in 2024, and was responsible for the company's growth and success during the 39 years of his tenure.

In addition to his career success, Michael was a lifelong recreational and competitive swimmer and enjoyed boating and fishing, golfing, biking, and Thursday night poker games. In younger years, tennis, squash, and skiing were also his favorite sports. Michael was very proud that he was the third of four generations of Monihans to serve on the Ocean City Beach Patrol. He was involved in many community organizations and clubs including the Ocean City Board of Realtors (Past President, Director), the Ocean City Yacht Club (Past Treasurer, Governor), Greate Bay Country Club, Ocean City High School Crew Team Founder, Ocean City Rowing and Athletic Association, and Ocean City Marlin and Tuna Club.

Michael was devoted to his family, his friends, and his office family. He loved Ocean City and felt blessed to live there. He is survived by his wife, Holly (Parker); his two children, Lindsay Monihan (Jeffrey Stein) and Christopher Monihan (Andrea Patterson); and grandchildren, Charles Stein, William Stein, Catherine Stein, and Maren Monihan. He is also survived by his brother, Jeffrey Monihan (Ellen Grossman); siblings-in-law, Betsy Parker Neaves (David), Joseph Yoffa, David Parker (Amy), and John Parker (Sonja); and mother-in-law, Karin Parker Wren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all.

Michael was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Joy (Young) Monihan; his sister, Robin Monihan Yoffa; and his beloved granddaughter, Renee Parker Monihan.

On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, a visitation with the family will be held from 9:30 a.m. with a service following at 11:30 a.m. at Margate Community Church, 8900 Ventnor Avenue, Margate. A celebration of life luncheon will be held at Greate Bay Country Club beginning at 1 p.m. for all family, friends, and colleagues who wish to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to the Renee Parker Monihan Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that supports pediatric emergency care at Shore Medical Center in Somers Point, the Early Childhood Endowment Fund at the Milton and Betty Katz JCC in Margate, and community outreach for recently bereaved parents. www.reneemonihanfoundation.org 199 New Road, Suite 46 Linwood, NJ 08221
