NICHOLAS SALVIA Obituary



SALVIA, NICHOLAS A. 89 - of Marmora, formerly of West Norriton, PA, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2012 at Shore Medical Center in Somers Point, surrounded by his loved ones. He was the beloved husband of the late Elaine D. (Fiorillo) Salvia. He was born in Conshohocken, PA on September 24, 1922 to the late Philip and Maria (Trasatta) Salvia. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Army with rank of Private First Class. He proudly served with the Headquarters Co. 359th Infantry 3rd Battalion. He fought in the Invasion of Normandy and he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in what later became known as the Battle of the Bulge. He also received the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead, and WWII Victory Medal. He retired from B.F. Goodrich Co. where he worked as a tire builder for 35 years. Nick was a man of strong faith. He was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish in Marmora, NJ, and a previous member of Visitation BVM Parish in Trooper, PA for over 40 years where he was active in the church community serving as an usher, member of the Holy Name Society, and St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was also an usher at the Immaculate Conception Shrine in Germantown, PA where he attended weekly novena for over 50 years. He attended retreat annually at Malvern Retreat House, and was a 3rd Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #4153. Nick was an avid gardener and was proud of the bountiful vegetable gardens he tended over the years. He was a sports fan and was always tuned in for the Phillies and Eagles games, college football games and professional golf. Nick is survived by his son Nicholas M. Salvia (Mary Lou) of Marmora, granddaughters Danielle Klotkowski (Jason), and Nicole Salvia (Rich), great-grandchildren Stella and Jack Klotkowski, his sister Rita Bruno of Ambler, PA, and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a great-grandson Gerald Nicholas Klotkowski, a brother Samuel Salvia, sisters Julie Salvia, Marion Richards, Yolanda Radick, Josephine Melito, and Theresa Ambler. A Funeral Mass will be held at Visitation BVM Church, 196 N. Trooper Rd., Norristown, PA. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Nick's memory to the Shore Medical Center Foundation, 1 E. New York Avenue, Somers Point, NJ 08244. Arrangements by Emil J.
