St. Michael's was my parish as a young girl. Msgr. Tierney instructed my father in the Catholic faith and performed the sacraments of baptism, communion, and confirmation. We never lost touch with Msgr Tierney as our family vacationed in Avalon for two weeks every summer. He greeted us always and the familiarity of his sermon was such a welcoming remembrance of his days at St. Michael's. I visited him at the rectory of Maris Stella Church in July of 2007 and I was so impressed with his office. Books were every where. He was so well read; you could see the workshop of his magnificent sermons. I remember thinking if he did retire who would put this effort into their daily sermons. No one can ever replace this man. He left his imprint I am sure on many of his parishioners and colleagues.

Forever in our hearts.

My parents, Tom and Marge Danks, always spoke so highly of Monsignor Tierney and his kindness to them. They would wish me to express those sentiments for them on the passage of this exemplary priest and fine man. Sincerest condolences to all his family and many friends in the priesthood and the laity.

I am so saddened by the death of this wonderful man. He was essence of what a Catholic priest should be and I will always have fond memories of his sermons at St. Lawrence Church. He was one of the nicest people I have ever met.
