Sheldon Zucker Obituary

ZUCKER, SHELDON 78 - of Delray Beach, FL, and formerly of Ventnor passed away on Sunday August 16 in Delray Beach where his wife and he resided for the past five years. Born in New York City to the late Augusta and Jerome Zucker, Sheldon moved to Ventnor in 1981 from Philadelphia. Sheldon served in the military as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force. Sheldon worked for the Philadelphia Police Department retiring as a homicide detective in 1981. After relocating to Ventnor, Sheldon worked many years as an Investigator for the Tropicana Hotel and Casino. Sheldon was also employed by the Atlantic County Government working as a Golf Ranger at the John Gaffney Green Tree Golf Course until 2004. Sheldon was an avid golfer, loved spending time with his friends and fellow workers at the Green Tree Golf Course, and continuing that passion after his move to Delray Beach. He also loved visiting and spending time with his grandchildren. Sheldon was predeceased by his son, Scott. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Florence (nee: Friedman) of Delray Beach, FL, two children; son, Jerry (Diana) Zucker of Egg Harbor Township, daughter Rhonda (A.J.) Russo of Ventnor, and three grandchildren, Shawn Zucker, Erin Russo, and A.J. Russo. At Sheldon's request, a graveside service will be held, Wednesday 1pm at Montefiore Cemetery, Jenkintown, PA. Sheldon was a good man and a very dedicated homicide detective. I enjoyed discussing our years in Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Division so much that I forgot that I came to the course to play golf. He will be missed. My sincere condolences to the family.
