Thomas Newkirk Obituary
NEWKIRK, THOMAS A., SR., 50 - of Northumberland Drive, Niskayuna, NY died on December 11, 2008, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born in Sommers Point, moving to Niskayuna in 1989. Tom earned his Master's Degree in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine from Indiana State University. Tom was the owner of Newkirk International. He was known for his generosity of spirit and amazing sense of humor and work ethic. Tom was an avid football fan, especially the Philadelphia Eagles. He was a Mason and an Eagle Scout, a Pop Warner football coach and Boy Scout Troop Leader. Tom also loved duck hunting and fishing in Ocean City. Tom is survived by his wife and great love of 30 years, Susan Taddei Newkirk and his three children; twins, Thomas, Jr. and Clayton and daughter Victoria; his parents Marjorie Newkirk of Egg Harbor Township NJ and Raymond Newkirk of Galloway Township NJ; his brother Mark D. Newkirk and his wife Susan of Mays Landing, NJ; in-laws James and Carole Taddei of Marco Island, FL; brother in-law James Taddei and his companion Ann Marie Wallen of Marlton, NJ, brother in-law John Taddei and his wife Brigetta Taddei of Breinigsville, PA. Tom is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. As per Tom's wished, his ashes will be laid to rest at his favorite scenic spot in Ocean City, New Jersey. There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at 7:00PM at the Niskayuna Reformed Church, Troy-Schenectady Road, Niskayuna, NY. A second service will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2008, at The Zion United Methodist Church, 652 Zion Road, Bargaintown, NJ. A Masonic service, facilitated by Keystone Lodge #153 will begin at 12:00 noon, followed by a memorial service at 12:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that those who wish to remember Tom, make contributions to the Newkirk Children College Scholarship Fund, mailed or brought to; Capital Communication Federal Credit Union, 582 Balltown Rd., Niskayuna, NY 12309. I don't know where to begin, how do you say enough about someone you knew for 40 years and shared so many good and bad experiences together. I was devasted to hear that my friend "Newt" had left us all too early in life. We had first met in the elementary school and grew close through the years in school and on the football field. Newt always possessed a strong will to succeed and improve not just as a football player but human being. He was always there for his friends, sharing kind words of encouragement and making us all feel good about ourselves during some bad times. Some memories that Tom and I shared are as vivid today as when then first occurred. Such as, being voted most improved players our senior year, seeing each other get married and him giving me words of encouragement as I battled cancer. Newt, you will surely be missed, not just by me but by the many people you touched over the years and were proud to have you as their friend.

I am deeply saddened by hearing of Tom's passing. He always brought a smile whenever I saw him. I have known Tom since he started in the sales business. Everytime I saw him he shared stories of his growing family, he was very proud of his children and their accomplishments. He brought humor with him in all that he did. I was overwhelmed when I found out today about Tom. I found out because a colleague needed help with a piece of home equipment and I knew Tom would go out of his way to help them because he knows me. So, I made that connection about two weeks ago. My colleague called me today to tell me the news about Tom. Then she proceeded to tell me about how Tom was so helpful. I have known Tom before he started his own business. He always went out of his way to help me and provide the highest level of customer service. We have become friends over the years and shared stories obout our children. I have twin boys (and three others), so we liked to exchange stories and pictures. He was so dedicated and proud of this children and his wife. I know he loved Ocean City. We rented his Ocean City flat and could see why he loved that island so much. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and I pray Tom will enjoy his resting place in Ocean City.

Growing up with Tommy was always an adventure. There really wasn't much to do in Bargaintown when we were kids. But Tommy was always at our house ready and eager to hang out with us, whether it was riding motorcycles, three wheelers or making ramps to jump with our bikes. The woods behind our houses was our playground. I'll always remember the day that Tommy gave me an indian-rub-burn behind Mabel's house one day. Typical boy teasing a girl... LOL

This is a very hard time to lose someone so close to you. You dont know me but my oldest son is learning how to skate @ frear park when I heard about this it hit home. A year ago Dec 30th, my young 3 boys lost their father at the age of 24 due to a constuction accident . It is never easy for something so suddon to happen and shatter a family. My wife was a classmate of Tom at Trenton State College. Barbara has many fond memories of Tom as they worked together in the Athletic Training room at TSC. We are deeply saddened by the the loss of Tom. He was a man of great integrity and earned a wealth of mutual respect as a result of his honesty and professional behavior. I have known Tom since the days before Newkirk International and I feel we have grown together, always sharing stories, views, and laughter. He will be missed beyond what a few words can describe. We are fortunate to have known him and worked with him. I send you my deepest sympathies for your loss. Be at peace Tom.
