Thomas Walsh Obituary

Thomas Francis Walsh Jr.

Thomas Francis Walsh, Jr, December 7, 1929 – February 22, 2025. Tom passed away at the age of 95, following a brief battle with the flu. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Leona (Lee Wojcik), in October 2017 after 64 years of marriage; by his parents, Thomas Sr and Florence Walsh; by his sister Mary Ann Graf of Stone Mountain, GA; by his sister in-law Ginger Motz of Northfield; and tragically, by his son Michael in October 2003; and son in-law Stanley Gunnison (Northfield) in May 2020. Tom is survived by his eldest son Daniel (wife Deborah) of Galveston, TX; his daughter Terry Gunnison (Northfield); as well as seven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren! Born and raised in Atlantic City and later Ventnor City, NJ, Tom spent his entire adult life as a resident of Ventnor City, NJ. Tom was a standout two-way player on the Atlantic City High School football team (graduating in 1946), and for over twenty years in the mid-50's to mid-70's, he presented the Outstanding Lineman Award each year at ACHS. Tom joined the US Navy in the early 50's, serving most of his 4-year tour as an electrician on the USS Cronin (DE 704). Tom was employed by Atlantic Electric for nearly 40 years, working his way up to Plant Supervisor at the Missouri Ave Plant, and finishing his career as AE's Safety Director. As a former lifeguard for the Ventnor City Beach Patrol, Tom loved the Shore Life and was an avid fisherman, both offshore and throughout the bays behind Absecon Island. He also coached the Margate Colts in the early 1960's, helped out with the Ventnor Pirates in the late 60's, and was a long-time Eagles fan! For a number of years, Tom was President and a do-it-all member of the Margate Log Cabin. Tom was always tinkering on gadgets in his garage…"if I can't fix it, it ain't broke!!" Tom and Lee had a fabulous circle of friends throughout the AC area, and they set a great example for their kids and grandchildren. Many of those same friends joined them on Florida winter retreats later in life in the Orlando and Ft. Myers areas. There's one heck of a Reunion going on "upstairs" right now!! In recent years, Tom had been a resident of the Spring Village Sr Living facility in Galloway, with daughter Terry making sure his fridge was well-stocked, while caring for his every need. Tom will be laid to rest in the family plot at Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing at a date to-be-determined. Condolences may be extended to the family at ghwimberg.com.
