Abdul Evans Obituary

On Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, our hearts were saddened at his untimely death. Abdul Evans was born on July 9, 1968, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Eddie and Bernadine. He was the first of four children. Abdul attended P.S. 184, JHS 275 and John Dewey High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he graduated.

At an early age, Abdul relocated to Richmond, Va., where he met his loving wife Andrea. He also worked at Tidewater in Ashland, Va. If anyone knew him, they called him Born. If you were from New York, we called him Scooter. Born was a loving husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend. Born was a role model to many. He coached the Bensley Tigers football team. His favorite saying: "Take one for the team." Born will be dearly missed, but if you knew one funny memory, take five seconds to think about it.

In 2002, Abdul gave his life over to Christ under the leadership of Pastor Benjamin James. In August 2010, he became a member of Refreshing Spring Deliverance Center under the leadership of Pastor Lakeisha James. While at this ministry in October 2010, he received the gift of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. He was a walking deacon and faithful armorbearer to his pastor. He was the kind of guy what was straight forward, no nonsense and sterm. Because of his love for his church and pastor, he wouldn't put up with anyone or anything that came up against them.

He leaves to mourn his loving wife, Andrea; three sons, Davon, Davonte and Travon; daughter, Davonda, all of Chester, Va.; his father, Eddie, who preceded him in death; his mother, Bernadine Evans of Brooklyn, N.Y.; six sisters, Angela, Arketa, Eartha, Nedra, Dominique and Najumah, all of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one brother, Arkie Evans of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 11 nieces; 10 nephews; three great-nephews and three great-nieces; seven aunts; five uncles; one mother-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law; his godmother, Frances Harmon of Maryland; three best friends, Tyrone James of Florida, Blair Merritt of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Tony Hill (Brown) of Chesterfield, Va.; his special uncle, Tracy; and cousin, Fred; a host of other relatives and friends.

Remains rest at the Tucker's Funeral Home, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday from the Chapel of the Tucker's Funeral Home, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg; Pastor Lakeisha James officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Minnis Memorial Park, Chester. Arrangements by the Tucker's Funeral Home, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg. A.A. Tucker, funeral director.
