ADA COX Obituary

"We all have our God in Heaven and many of us have a hero right here on earth. Our mother was our hero. After devoting her efforts and energy to raising her three daughters (and one husband), she returned to class to earn a GED. Strength and perseverance were her super powers."

?Ada was born before her twin sister Ida in Petersburg, VA, on January 10, 1935. She was preceded to the Promised Land by her parents, William Francis Anderson, Sr. and Carrie Harris Anderson; her husband, Renard Cox; her brother, William Francis Anderson, Jr. and her sisters, Mary Lee Davis and Ellen (Easter) Marie Harris and her twin sister Ida Louise Owen Bogue.

?After working in Food Services at Virginia State College (University), she spent the next 37 years working at Central State Hospital. After "retiring," she continued to work part-time as a Home Health Care Aide. As a member of Edgehill Church of Christ, she was well loved by the congregation, including the young parishioners that she chaperoned on numerous church trips. These young parishioners provided labor on more than one occasion to make repairs and upgrades at 1348 Custer St., where she resided for 52 years before she moved in with her daughter, Sharon and son-in-law, Mike.

?Mrs. Cox is survived by her daughters, Belinda Friday of Mechanicsville, VA, Lolita Cox, Twin Cities, MN, and Sharon Raigns (Mike) of Petersburg, VA; grandchildren, Samika Monike Cohen (Jamel) of Nashville, TN, Dironna Fern Clark (Gawan) of Prince George, VA, Morgan J.D.E. Ortiz of Roseville, CA, and Damian Renard Friday of Houston, TX; great-grandchildren Ricky Smith of Nashville, TN, Johnny Belton of Prince George, VA, Sharondin Ally Monike Cohen of Prince George, VA; many nieces and nephews; and her very dear friends, Fanny Garnes, Ida Brown and Pauline Harris.

?Services for Mrs. Ada Cox will be at 12 noon, Monday, January 2, 2017, at Edgehill Church of Christ, 25609 Grant Ave, North Dinwiddie, VA 23803, Dr. Russ Jurek officiating. A viewing will be held Sunday, January 1, 2017, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Family will meet prior to services at 1827 Arch St, Petersburg, VA, at 11 a.m. Internment at the Cox Family Cemetery, Route 460 West (Cox Road, Dinwiddie) will follow the services.

?We would like to express our sincere gratitude and thanks for all acts of kindness shown during this difficult time. May God continue to bless you all.
