BILLY F. CHAVIS

1955 - 2017

Mr. Billy Foster Chavis, 62, affectionately known as "Duckbill" of Richmond, Va., departed this life on Sunday, September 3, 2017, at Chippenham Medical Center, Richmond, Va. He was born April 15, 1955, in Franklin County, VA, to Mary E. Hargraves and Calvin Chavis Sr.
Billy attended Peabody and Petersburg High School. He had a desire to became a journalist in his early years. He believed in the Lord and had a strong faith. He was a member of the Cedar Street Baptist Church in Richmond, VA. He also attended other churches during his lifetime. Billy was employed with a lumber mill for numerous years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Maryland Chavis, Calvin Chavis Jr., Ruby McLaughlin and Ann Holcomb; grandparents, Lucil B. Johnson and Lillian Crews; aunts, Elnor Stewart, Florence Harris, Virginia and Mae Hargraves; uncles, Henry Harris and George Hargraves; nieces, Vicki M. Chavis-Ansar and Sherice E. Chavis; great-niece, Tanique M. Chavis; nephew, Calvin Chavis III, and two great-nephews, Delvari A. Chavis and Kyrie M. Uzoh Chavis.
Left to cherish his memories: son, Shamone Dennis; two grandchildren, StarShonnan Thomas and Armon Thwreatt; sister, Marsha Chavis Wiggins (Eugene), brothers, Bobby Chavis and Melvin Chavis; devoted cousin, Lawrence Hargraves; devoted niece, Shanta Bears; sister-in-law, Phyllis Chavis; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Billy was a good person. He will be missed. Gone too soon!
Service for Mr. Billy F. Chavis will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at the Chapel of J. M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Avenue, Petersburg, Va.
