Clara Crowder Obituary

Clara Rollings Crowder, 82, of Petersburg, widow of Bennie Ward Crowder, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2011.

Born in Elberon, Va., she was the daughter of the late James Robert and Fannie Blowe Rawls Rollings. Mrs. Crowder was a retired telephone operator for C & P Telephone and a longtime member of Washington Street United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son, Robert Wayne VanFossen and wife, Lydia, of Petersburg; sister, Fannie Rollings Stewart of Dendron; devoted brother-in-law, Aubrey VanFossen and wife, Carole; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Nancy Simmons and Janet Vazquez.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 24, at Washington Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gina De Jesus, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Washington Street UMC, 22 E. Washington St., Petersburg, VA 23803.
