Clarence Blizzard Obituary

Deacon Clarence Edward Blizzard
Petersburg - "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that day, and not to me but also to all who have loved His appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-8
Deacon Clarence Edward Blizzard was born February 22, 1944 to the late Earnest Blizzard and Ethel Charity-Blizzard in Newport News, VA. He departed this life on Saturday, June 26, 2021.
Deacon Blizzard was a graduate of L.P. Jackson High School, Surry County, VA. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army (Infantry) where he was stationed in Fort Bragg, NC receiving numerous medals and awards. Deacon Blizzard served his country actively in the United States Army for 3 years.
He was an extremely hard worker retiring from the Fort Lee Defense Commissary Agency in September 1995, after 31 years of service. He also joined the Army Reserve where he served for 32 years, 5 months, and 22 days retiring on March 9, 2004. He was a life-time member of the American Legion #120.
Deacon Blizzard accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior joining and becoming an active member of Swan's Point Baptist Church, Spring Grove, VA. Clarence was ordained as a Deacon on December 9, 2001 under the leadership of Pastor Nathan Quick. He served as a Deacon, sung in the choir, and attended Sunday School and Bible Study regularly. He also enjoyed feeding the needy in the community which he did for many years and often visited many local nursing homes as a part of his outreach ministry.
Deacon Blizzard was a very active member of the Frederick L. Ray Biblical Institute where he received an Associate and Bachelor degree and Master of Biblical Studies. In addition, he received an Associate and Bachelor degree with a Master of Theology and a Certificate in Advanced Biblical Studies. He also received a Youth Mentor and Leadership Scholar Award.
In 2009, Deacon Blizzard married Josephine and they were married for 12 years. He was a loving, kind, forgiving man of God. He was loyal to his family and friends and devoted to the work of Christ. He loved to visit and comfort the sick. He became very good friends with strangers who he met during his ministry. He enjoyed working in his yard for long hours and arts and crafts. Deacon Blizzard always kept in contact with all his family and friends and will be deeply missed.
Along with his parents, Deacon Blizzard was preceded in death by his former wife, Lillie Mae Blizzard (whom he married in 1968 until 2007 when her health declined); and two sisters, Barbara Royster and Ruth Chambliss.

To Ms. Josephine, Tiffany Woods, and to the entire Blizzard Family: Remember that God is here to comfort you during this sorrowful time. He will always protect you in the palm of His hand. I know that "Blizzard's" loss seems overwhelming at the moment, but he has gone home to be with the Lord. He was a good and faithful servant and has earned his reward. As a family, continue to honor God, Blizzard's memory, and each other. May the unprecedented favor of God continue to bless each of you. Sincerely, Shelia Lewis

Blizzard was a great step father and grand father figure to my son. He was a patient, loyal man of god, who made it his mission to help others. Amongst many things, I will miss Blizzard’s infectious laugh, funny stories, and always betting against our team when we watched sport events with a mischievous grin. Birthdays, Super Bowls, and holidays will always have a void from the loss of his presence. But at least I can smile when I picture Blizzard working on the gardens of heaven, and enjoying the eternal rest he so deserves. As 2 Corinthians 5:8 states,
“we are [as I was saying] of good courage and confident hope, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord”. Love and miss you always, Tiffany.

I had a hard time dealing with the shock, the disbelief, the sadness, and the sad acceptance of the loss of one of my great friends! Even though he is not physically here, I’d like the family to know that he will never be too far away because he will dwell within the hearts and minds of you all, never to be forgotten. Rest assured that his spirit will always be watching over you. So when you think something, say something, or do something and it comes to you that “ Thats what daddy, granddaddy or Clarence would do or say,” thats him revealing to you all that he is and always will be near. My sincere Condolences and Heartfelt Prayers goes out to and for the entire Blizzard family and grieving friends. May GOD Bless you all!

Sincerely
A close friend

Our condolences to the Blizzard family. I really loved Uncle Clarence so much. Our last conversations were about Jesus. He was the only Uncle that ever called me and checked on me since I was a child. Without a doubt I know that Uncle Clarence is in Heaven because he had a relationship with God. I will always cherish the memories. Love you all - Nephew Kevin Chamberliss
