Doris Elise Strickland Smith (Strick) left this life peacefully at home in Richmond on August 2nd, 2021. Strick had a lifelong deep and abiding faith in the Lord and is now in His Heavenly presence.
Strick was predeceased by her wonderful and faithful husband, T. Frank Smith, Jr. She is survived by her loving children, daughter Pamela Ann Williams and her husband Louis, together with son Thomas F. Smith, III and his wife Marilyn. Strick was a proud grandmother with four grandchildren (Peyton Ann Brown, Thomas F. Smith IV, Brittany Elise Clark, and Pamela Danielle Hill). She was also blessed with seven great grandchildren (Parker Brown, Myla Hill, Lydia Hill, Wilder Clark, Henley Smith, Beckham Smith, and Remi Smith).
Strick was a proud alumnus of Petersburg High School and attended The College of William and Mary. Shortly thereafter she met and married the love of her life, T. Frank Smith, Jr. Mr. Smith enjoyed a long and successful career as an executive with Exxon Mobil. Together the two of them had many fun adventures raising a family while traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe. Their marriage lasted for 62 years, a testament to the enduring love and faithfulness they shared.
Strick lit up every room she walked into and had a unique way of making each person feel special. Her gracious manner and sense of humor were infectious, and her moves on the dance floor were legendary. All fortunate enough to have known her will miss her greatly. Strick was an active member of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts where she loved volunteering in the gift shop and arranging flowers for the exhibit rooms. She was also a member of The Tuckahoe Woman's Club, and as an accomplished painter entered her works into the annual Art Show.
Strick's church home was Third Church in Richmond where the staff and congregation have been trusted friends and prayer partners for over 30 years. The family wishes also to recognize the loving support provided by the team of caregivers who assisted Strick during the past three years.
Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 10th at Third Church, 600 Forest Avenue in Richmond with Ed Satterfield officiating. All are welcome for a gathering to be held in Fellowship Hall after the service. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Third Church, 600 Forest Avenue, Richmond, Virginia 23229, or to The Virginia Tech Foundation – VTCC T.
