I am an old school friend of Mike's and remember admiring Mr. Crupenink as our quarterback league football coach. He was very fatherly out there and I felt like he cared about us.

So sorry Jean, Jack was such a kind and caring man who retained his sense of humor all the years that I knew him. The two of you will always share a special spot in my heart .. Will never forget how patient you newlyweds were with 3 about to be teens. His rewards have been well earned.

Jack was a inspiration to so many young athletes
I for one still benefit from lessons learned from Jack.

Dear Mrs. Cruppenink and Mike, I was your Hopewell News carrier when you lived on Pecan Ave. in City Point, and Mr. Cruppenink was my VFW baseball coach when I was 12 years old. He was one of those unique men who always acted with dignity and encouraged me to live up to my fullest potential. Ironically, before I knew he had passed I was sharing memories of his kindness with friends of mine at church. He was one of those people who passed on wonderful lifelong lessons of what it means to give back to your community. About a decade ago when I was training for hospital ministry at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore for the first and only time I got on a service elevator hidden from the general visiting population of the hospital. There was a nurse on the elevator and I noticed his name as being Cruppenink. Knowing it was not a common name like Smith, Johnson or Jones, I remarked that perhaps he had relatives in Hopewell, Virginia. He said his grandfather, Jack, lived there. I relayed how I had known him. Jack was a great man whose influence on others likely passed on much further than he ever realized. Please know that your family is in my prayers. I regret that I cannot be there to pay my last respects, but know that on Saturday you and Jack will be in my thoughts as you lay him to rest. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Sincerely, Steve Roscher.
