Mrs. Jacqueline Winston-Rhodes of Richmond, Va., entered eternal rest on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, 4:30 a.m. at VCU/MCV Medical Center, Richmond, Va.
Jackie was born in New York City to Jessie and Alease Winston on May 8, 1963. She was a graduate of Mavis Beacon High School, Class of 1980. Jackie joined the United States Army in 1987 and was honorably discharged in 1988. After returning from the military, Jackie moved to Petersburg, Va., in 1989 and attended John Tyler Community College earning a nursing certificate. She was employed at Arnold Pen until her health declined.
Jackie recently was baptized in August 2009, along with her daughter, ShaQuanna, by Bishop Johnnie Givians at Grace and Mercy Church of Christ Disciple of Christ, Eastover, S.C., under the leadership of Eldress Lettie Winston. She recently began attending Mount Olive Baptist Church, Richmond, Va., under the pastoralship of the Rev. John Wynn.
She was preceded in death by her brother, David Winston.
She leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Christopher Rhodes; and one daughter, ShaQuanna Winston, both of Richmond, Va.; mother, Alease Harris of Richmond, Va.; father, Jessie Winston; and stepmother, Lettie Winston, both of Eastover, S.C.; four sisters, Lisa and Adraine Winston, both of New York; Victoria Rivers (Bruce) of Beaufort, S.C.; and Gloria Moore (Gilbert) of Winston Salem, N.C,; three brothers, Shaun Reese of Richmond, Va., Marcus Winston (LaToya) of South Carolina, and Eric Winston of New York; 13 nieces, Jatona, Jamie, Monique, Cierra, Anjelica, Ashley, Shandell, Erica, Kyerra, Donique and Sherell; 12 nephews, Shaun, Tyrek, Malik, Jamar, Marcus Jr., Marquies, De'Vonne, De'Vonte, De'Onne, Shaun, Johnathan and Jared; five aunts, Sally Harris, Daisy Harris, Peggy Harris, Elaine Bourbon and Ruby McLeod; one uncle, Pete McNeil; mother-in-law, Hattie Rhodes of Petersburg, Va.; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
A service of love and remembrance will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at the chapel of J.M. Wilkerson Funeral Establishment Inc., 102 South Ave., Petersburg, Va., the Rev. John Wynn, pastor of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Richmond, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at the funeral establishment.
