LULA CLARK Obituary

"Some glad morning, when this life is over, I'll fly away."
On Wednesday April 12, 2017, Deaconess Lula B. Clark was called from labor to reward. On September 24, 1933, she became one of six daughters born to the late, Jessie and Bessie Blackwell of Dinwiddie County.
Upon graduation for Southside High School in 1953, she began to pursue a career in cosmetology and health care. She became a licensed beautician in 1967, and was employed at many health care facilities as a nurse's aide for many years to include: Central State Hospital, John Randolph Nursing Home, Dunlop House, Walnut Hill Nursing Home, Brighter Living, Care Advantage and Battlefield (Golden Living) Nursing Home. She became a licensed LPN-B Nurse and certified at the Richmond Technical Center in 1981.
During her early years, she was blessed to marry the love of her life, the late Deacon James E. Clark, Sr. To this union of almost sixty years they were blessed with five children; Sherri Clark, Jacqueline C. Benjamin (Leon), James Clark, Jr. (Annie), Vincent M. Clark and Patrick Clark (Theresa).
She became a member and a second mother to the first grandchild in the Blackwell family, Charlotte Hazelwood. She has been blessed with nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She joined the Metropolitan Baptist Church in 1964. She was a diligent and devoted member of several ministries to include: Ladies Auxiliary, Women's Day Committee, Pastor's Anniversary Committee, Church Anniversary Planning Committee and the Deaconess Ministry. Whenever she was asked to serve, she was grateful to support her church in any capacity. She was very active in her Masonic affiliations to include: The Order of Eastern Stars, Heroines of Jericho and Sirens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon James E. Clark, Sr; son, Vincent M. Clark; sister, Bertha B. Smith; brother, Herman Blackwell, Sr. To God be the glory for the great things he has done.
Deaconess Clark leaves to cherish her memories her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, four sisters; Martha Cousins, Thelma Blackwell, Sarah Carter and Mary F. Blackwell; two brothers, Jesse Blackwell, Jr. (Ursula) and Howard Blackwell (Lucille); sister-in-law, Mattie Thompson of Detroit, MI and a host of other relatives and friends.
We give special recognition and love to the entire community of Quaker Road, who we recognize as extended family members. May God continue to keep you in his care. We honor, Mrs. Annie B. Clark, Jessica M. Clark and Sherri Clark for all acts of kindness and faithfulness as healthcare providers. Your love and devotion will always be remembered.
A Celebration of Life will be held 12 noon, Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Metropolitan Baptist Church, 1021 Halifax St., Petersburg, VA. Rev. Lamont Hobbs, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow at Dinwiddie Memorial Park.
Professional services have been entrusted to the staff of Bland and Tucker Funeral Homes, 137 Harrison St, Petersburg (804) 732-7841.
