MARY CHAMBLISS Obituary

Mary Louise ("Mer," Sista") Chambliss, 62, of 1854 New Lincoln Circle, Hopewell, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at Chippenham Hospital, Richmond.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Smith, and brother, John Thomas Smith.

Mary was employed by Central State Hospital and worked for over 30 years until her retirement in December of 1999. She was baptized at an early age at Hunting Quarter Baptist Church in Stony Creek. She then became a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Sussex, where she was a faithful member until her health declined. Mary was a devoted mother, daughter, aunt and friend.

She leaves to cherish her memory: a son, Corey Smith of Hopewell; daughter, Shelanda Chambliss of Petersburg; her mother, Lou Amey Smith of Stony Creek; a devoted brother and caregiver, George Lee Smith (Eurgentine); two sisters, Carolyn Hicks (Robert) of Philadelphia and Joan "Faye" Smith of Stony Creek; five grandchildren, Coreyll Smith of Hopewell, ShaCorey Dancy of Chesterfield, Sherell Dancy of Stony Creek, Tyrus McLauglin II and Patience McLaughlin, both of Petersburg; three great-grandchildren, Janaiyah, Jataiyah and Jalanni Waller, all of Hopewell; a devoted niece and caregiver, Carlissa Smith-Green of Prince George; nephews, Calvin and Raubert Hicks (Trina) of Philadelphia, Levar Smith of Hopewell, Antoine and Joseph Smith, both of Prince George; and a host of friends and family.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at the New Hope Baptist Church, Sussex. The Rev. Patrick H. Carson will officiate. Interment will follow in the Smith and Rose Family Cemetery.
