MICHAEL STEWART Obituary
Michael received his Bachelors of Arts and Masters from Virginia State University and currently was pursuing his Doctoral Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Michael was currently employed as a Special Education Instructor at Pleasants Lane Elementary School, and has been an educator within the Petersburg School System for over 20 years. He also enjoyed working at El Tropic Abana Nightclub as security, located in Richmond, VA.
He enjoyed smoking cigars, fencing, playing softball and football, as well as dressing up for various holidays in order to provide fun and entertainment for the children at school.
He was a member of Eureka Lodge #15-Most Worshipful Prince Hall Free Masons of Petersburg, VA, Esquire XIII Fraternity, Inc. and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
Mike leaves many fond memories from colleagues in the Petersburg School System, Virginia State University and friends throughout the area that he cherished as family.
He is survived by Irene Powell (Mother), Jesse Powell (Father), Christopher Powell (Brother) and Patrick Powell (Brother).
Graveside service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Blandford Cemetery, 319 S Crater Rd., Petersburg, VA. The Family will assemble 12:45 p.m. at the cemetery on the day of service. It will be Live Streamed.
The family has requested that donations can be made to: Omega PSI PHI Fraternity or Pleasants Lane Elementary School, Petersburg, VA.

While I attend VSU Mike and I became friends coming a bond because we both were from NJ. I am so sorry to learn we lost this brother. I haven´t seen him in a very long time time but he will always hold a special place in my heart. My deepest condolences to his family.

I searched for my friend only to find that you already went on to Paradise. You were always kind to me. I use to have fun talking with you and the wisdom you shared.
