OCTAVIA RICHARDSON Obituary

Octavia Friend Guthrie Richardson, of Dinwiddie, Va., widow of John Yulee (Brux) Richardson, died on Aug. 5, 2012.

She was the daughter of the late Meritte Hendricks and Helen Branch Guthrie.

She is survived by two sons, G. Robert Oslin (Louise) of Chicago and John Y. Richardson Jr. (Karen) of Virginia Beach; one daughter, Helen Branch Richardson (James Lewis) of Dinwiddie; eight grandchildren, Robert Michael Oslin (Linda) and David Graham Oslin of Tazewell, Va., Susan Oslin of Los Angeles, Marie Harris Richardson, John J. Richardson, Andrew H. Richardson (Stephanie) of Virginia Beach, Dan O'Sullivan (Laura) of Buchanan, Mich., and Sheila McDonald (Michael) of Chicago; great-grandson, Casey O' Sullivan of Buchanan, Mich.; sister-in-law, Mary Richardson Butterworth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Occie Friend was employed as office manager of the Retail Merchants Association of Petersburg for 23 years and later as a secretary in the Dinwiddie County School Systems. She retired in 1977, but continued to enjoy life traveling, playing bridge, and spending time with friends and family. She was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church for over 50 Years.

The family will receive friends at the home of Helen Branch Richardson in Dinwiddie. A graveside service will be held at the family cemetery, Ridgeway in Dinwiddie, Va., at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, with the Rev. John Fair and the Rev. Phyllis Piluzo officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Lebanon United Methodist Church Building Fund, 12450 Courthouse Road, Dinwiddie, VA 23841, or The Petersburg Home for Ladies Employee Christmas Fund, 311 S. Jefferson St. Petersburg VA 23803. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com.
