RONALD SLAUGHTER Obituary

Ronald Ashton Slaughter, 65, of Sutherland, VA, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at John Randolph Medical Center after a very brief battle with esophageal cancer. He passed peacefully with his wife and daughter by his side. Ron was preceded in death by his father, Frank Ashton Slaughter. He is survived by his mother, Virgie Louise Griffin Slaughter; his loving wife of 27 years, Patricia Blakely Slaughter; daughter, Lauren Taylor Slaughter of Sutherland; son, Travis Ashton Slaughter of Prince George; brother, Michael Wayne Slaughter (Roberta) of Yamasee, SC; dear cousin, Linda Miller of Colonial Heights; as well as several brothers/sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Ron was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed time spent in his garage working on various projects, repairing and maintaining vehicles, but his passion in life was spending time with family and friends.

Ron's career spanned 40 years in the civil engineering field. He was a NCCCO certified crane operator who found great satisfaction in building water treatment infrastructures throughout the Virginia, North Carolina, and Maryland areas. Ron retired in 2019 after 20+ years with MEB General Contractors.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Association. The family is being served by the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.

A special friend

February 5, 2021

Ronnie and I go way back. Partied together in high school. He was always the life of the party. A big smile would greet you. A pat on back when you needed it. Loved his family and adored his mother. The memories will no doubt will remain in my heart now and in the days that follow. To the family I am so sorry for your loss. Ronnie was a great friend, husband, father, brother, son, cousin. He will sadly be missed. No more pain.

I worked with Ron at the Fort Lee gas station in the mid-70's when both of us were high schoolers. I can honestly say it was never a dull moment when he was around. Good times, back in the day... Rest in peace.
