After reading his Guest Book it doesn't surprise me that Ron was a kindred spirit to many. It was a great shock to hear of his passing. Ron, there'll always be a Diet Coke waiting for you in the fridge! Angela and Zach we are so sorry for your loss. You're in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Angela and family,
I am so sorry and sad to hear of Mr. Spedden's passing! He was my homeroom teacher my Jr. year in HS, which was his first year out of UVA. His sense of humor, messy handwriting, and disheveled suit endeared us to him. Later, He taught both of my boys, Alex and Sam, history, which is how they started to love the subject, politics, and Rock-n-Roll! Alex and I saw him perform in a CHHS talent show, too! Both sons adored him. He will be truly missed! I am saddened that he didn't get to fully enjoy the much deserved retirement that he absolutely earned! Rest in Peace in Rock-in Roll Heaven, Mr. Sdedden!

I graduated from CHHS in 1977 before I could have had the privilege of having Mr. Spedden as a teacher. I switched careers to teaching and joined CHMS in 2004. Ten years ago I started also teaching GED on Tuesday and Thursday nights at CHHS. I saw Mr. Spedden all of the time as he would be working late after soccer practice and games. He was a kind man, obviously dedicated to teaching and to students. I also went to UVA and am sorry that Mr. Spedden did not get to spend many years in retirement going to the games in Charlottesville and pursuing his other interests.

Mr. Spedden was my Sociology teacher in 1985. He was one of the best teachers I ever had. I will never forget his kindness and wonderful sense of humor. We loved the students and was absolutely a mentor to many of us. I went on to major in Psychology and minor in Sociology in college because of Mrs. Yates' Psychology class and his Sociology class. "CLOCK! CLOCK!" I'll never forget him. My condolences to you in your great loss.

So sorry for your loss. Mr Spedden was a great teacher and mentor for all of his students. If you did not take one life lesson from him during one of his classes you did not learn anything. RIP fine sir and enjoy all the classic rock now in person with all the rock gods.

Our prayers are with you! We will miss Ron. I always enjoyed our talks of politics and Jerry Garcia and Eric Clapton, and of course, which rub was best for ribs and barbecue. I would watch Ron in action in debates and he was the best! He touched so many lives!

I worked with Ron at CHHS fir 10 years. The first 4 years we were in the history department together and one year, I didn't have a room--instead I had a cart and spent one block sharing his room. He was so gracious about it. Ron was a lot of fun. He loved Angela and Zachary and talked a lot about them. He also loved his music. Last year I subbed for the music teacher and Ron came in and did a presentation on music and no surprise, he had very definitive opinions on the best musicians and songs! I retired 5 years ago and enjoyed talking with Ron last spring about how much he would love being retired.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of his death. We will all miss him. Praying for you, Angela and Zachary, as you navigate life without him. He was one of a kind and a man who will not be forgotten.

Ron was a college housemate for three years, and a wonderful man. We reconnected through Facebook several years ago, and as anyone who knows him can attest, he was a spirited political debater. I am so shocked to hear of this, and I know he will be sorely missed. My deepest condolences to his entire family.
