SAMUEL G. EDMOND JR.

On Thursday, February 11, 2016, in Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, MD., the eldest son and the 5th of 10 children of the late Samuel G. Edmond, Sr. and Louise Parker Edmond was released from his pain and suffering and slept into eternal life.

Mr. Samuel G. Edmond, Jr., affectionately known as ""Sonny or Sam"" of 27219 Edmond Lane, Waverly, Va., began his earthly journey on February 18, 1934, where he was a lifetime resident.

Samuel was educated in the Sussex County Public Schools. Early in life, Samuel joined Plank Road Baptist Church, Waverly, Va., where he served on the Usher's Ministry and a member of the Board of Trustees until his health declined. Samuel was employed by Newport News Shipbuilding, Sussex County Public Schools Transportation Department, and Edmond Trucking Company.

Samuel had two favorite pastimes, gardening and hunting and he occasionally fished. He looked forward to hunting every deer season and making his garden every summer. He was an active member of the Drivers Hunting Club of Homeville until his health declined and was made an honorary member this year. Samuel fed many community members from his backyard garden and often spoke of not being able to do those things anymore.

Samuel was united in matrimony to the faithful, dedicated and loving Jeanette Stuart for 52 years. Of this union were two loving and dedicated daughters, Sheila Kirksey (Bobby) of Bowie, Md., and Donna Smith (Melvin) of Herndon, Va. He had six grandchildren, Chanel and Arielle Kirksey, Maria, Jabbari, Jada and Myla Smith.

Preceding him in death were five siblings, Emily E. Kelly, Essie E. Fitzgerald, Lillian E. Lamb, Thomas J. Edmond and Dorothy E. Boyd.

In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, Samuel's memories will forever be cherished by his four siblings, Louise E. Phillips, Junious Lafayette Edmond, Sr. (Ethel), Katherine B. Edmond, Greer E. Mack (Henry); three sisters-in-law, Hazel M. Edmond, Mary S. Davis and Angie B. Stuart; two brothers-in-law, James Lamb and Jack S. Stuart; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many devoted friends too many to name.

Services for Mr. Samuel G. Edmond, Jr. will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at Sussex Central High School, 21394 Sussex Drive, Sussex, Va., Rev. Dr. George O. Urquhart, eulogist. Interment to follow at Plank Road Baptist Church Cemetery, Waverly, Va.

Viewing for Mr. Edmond will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at Sussex Central High School.
