WILLIAM CROWDER Obituary

William N. "Irish Billy Crowder", departed this life June 23, 2018, and is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Joan Marie Crowder; his two sons, William Crowder Jr., and his wife Lonnie, and Thomas Crowder, and his wife Brigitte; three step-daughters, Judy White, and her husband Rex, Jane Haycox and Joanne Ellington; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bernard Crowder, and his wife Geanette, and Charles Crowder, and his wife Juanita; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Blanche, and father, Bernard Crowder; and brothers, Donald, and his wife Alma, and Gilbert Crowder.
Billy worked for Chesterfield County Courthouse. After 18 years, he retired as Electrical Supervisor. He previously worked for 18 years for Local 666.
He was a light middleweight boxer from 1956 to 1972, both amateur and professional. He had 56 amateur fights, won 54 and lost 2. He was a Golden Glove Champion. He had 23 professional fights, won 19, lost 2 and 2 draws. At his two professional fights at Madison Square Garden in New York, 1 win and 1 loss.
He trained young boxers at the YMCA in Petersburg, VA, for 20 years. Billy was an avid hunter and fisherman.
The family is receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 25 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Road, where a funeral ceremony will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 27. Interment to follow in Dale Memorial Park.
