Barbara Mancini Obituary

MANCINI, BARBARA HILDA (THORP), 88, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Steere House, Providence.

Formerly of Narragansett and Providence, she was the beloved wife of the late Raymond G. Mancini. Born in Boston, MA, she was daughter of the late Jens Oscar and Hilda (Peterson) Thorp.

Mrs. Mancini was a professional dancer in her early life, and later attended Rhode Island College while raising her family. Her joys were travel, books and entertaining, and especially, nurturing her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends. She was a lifelong volunteer, giving time to many Rhode Island organizations including Scallop Shell Nursing Home, Multiple Sclerosis Society, Federal Hill House and others.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Mancini of Brookline, MA, Judith DiMeo of Rehoboth, MA, Janice Mancini DelSesto of Boston, MA, and Rae Mancini Castigliego of Cranston, as well as 5 cherished grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Lois Mancini and sister of the late James, Edward, Elsie and Robert Thorp.

Calling hours Friday 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Jones-Walton-Sheridan Funeral Home, 1895 Broad Street at Park Avenue, Cranston, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Raymond Church, 1240 North Main Street, Providence. Inurnment will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Steere House Garden Fund, in memory of Barbara Mancini, 100 Borden Street, Providence, RI 02903.
