Benjamin DeLeon Obituary

DeLEON, BENJAMIN, 95, of Cranston, died Thursday, January 26, at Cra-Mar Meadows. He was the husband of Thelma (Abrich) DeLeon, and the late Sadie (Abrich) DeLeon.

Mr. DeLeon taught Physics and Biology for 35 years in Newark, NJ. He was involved in many civic and charitable organizations. He was co-author of science textbooks used in NJ and NY school systems, as well as a widely published contributor to the Providence Journal and many Science Environmental Journals.

Mr. DeLeon received a BS from Cornell and an M.A. from Columbia University. He worked on a doctorate at NYU. He was a fellow at the Oak Ridge Institute for Nuclear Studies and at San Francisco State College. He was a U.S. Army Captain and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in 1945.

Besides his wife he is survived by a stepson, Alec Sinel of North Kingstown; two stepdaughters, Sharon Sinel of Newton, MA and Ina Katzman of Marblehead, MA; five grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

My family will cherish the memory of Uncle Ben. He had many stories to tell of his youth and growing up overseas and coming to America. He was very generous to me and my family. We will miss him!
