John Cinguina Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Westchester Funeral Home, Inc. on Feb. 4, 2026.
John Ernest Cinguina, 85, of Eastchester, New York, passed away in Sanford, Florida, on February 2, 2026.

Born August 30, 1940, in New York, New York, he was the son of the late Henry and Helen Cinguina. John graduated from Mount Saint Michael Academy, Bronx, New York, in 1958. He was a member of Manhattan College's Class of 1962 and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Columbia University in 1966. He opened his dental practice in 1970 in Scarsdale, New York, and dedicated his professional life to dentistry, serving his patients with care and integrity over the course of a long and respected career. He retired in 2010.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Bernadette Marie (Dowling). He is survived by their five children: John (Kimberly), Jennifer, Linda (Michael), Glenn, and Robert (Catherine). He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Mary and John Cinguina; Kristen, Sarah, and Amy Walsh; Madelynn and Lauren Davidoff; and Matthew, Peter, and Thomas Cinguina; as well as by his longtime companion, Mildred.

John honorably served his country as a Captain in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967, an experience that reflected his deep sense of duty and commitment.

An avid golfer, John balanced a constant commitment to improvement with a healthy dose of realism. He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants and stayed loyal through championships and long droughts. Intellectually curious by nature, John was well- read, with a deep interest in history, especially U.S. presidents, foreign affairs, and international conflicts. He also loved to travel.

Saving his best act for last, John was a devoted and loving grandfather. He took a genuine interest in his grandchildren's lives, always eager to understand what mattered to them and proudly supportive of their goals and accomplishments. He could often be found on the sidelines or in the audience at one of their events, taking joy in seeing their distinct talents flourish, and encouraging them with quiet pride. Steeped in Italian tradition, John cherished Christmas Eve, and whether setting the table or frying the fish, he made sure everyone had a role and felt part of something special.

The family will receive friends at Westchester Funeral Home, Inc., Eastchester, on Sunday, February 8, 2026, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, February 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Annunciation Church, Crestwood. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In leiu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute to Mt. St. Michael Academy
