Brooke and I met at RI hospital at the cancer center as the only two young patients in the hospital. We bonded over understanding one another that way and we gave each other strength. She was always so positive in everything she did and had to go through. We would go discount shopping together and we would talk about life out of the cancer center. We would talk about how once we were cured we would go out to eat together with our nurses/second families. The nurses at the hospital meant the world to her and they loved her back. I am so upset to see her go. It is shocking to hear that she has passed but it gives me comfort to know that she passed peacefully after all of the pain of chemotherapy she has been through. She was so resilient. She inspires me everyday to be strong like she was. I am grateful to have known her and grateful I could call her my friend.

I remember Brooke as a fifth grader attending the birthday sleepover of my daughter Katie. In the morning, Brooke sat on a stool and had a conversation with me, hair all over the place, as I made breakfast for the girls. We had a wonderful talk and I remember being impressed by her maturity, great attitude and positive outlook. The Nehring family offers its sincere condolences to the Greenberg, Reilly and Travers families.

Dear Greenberg family,I can't even begin to comprehend the terrible loss you all must endure, leukemia took my mothers' life as well. I know there came a time when you just wanted her to stop suffering. She has now, and she is lighting up every thing she touches in heaven. Although I have not seen any of you in so very long, I remember Brooke lighting up our home with her contagious smile and her charming wit. Brianna was so timid at the time and Brooke was such a delightful presence. Her sense of humor made the whole family laugh out loud at the dinner table. It so hard to try to make sense out of something so senseless, but you all must live on knowing she watches over you and protects you and is up there spreading her magic. Remember only the body dies, and she will forever be with you. My deepest heartfelt sympathies to you all.
