Well - reading these entries just makes me feel good - in a sad way. It makes me feel ok because Dan led the life he needed to lead and found peace with himself for the "better" half of his life.
I came across Dan as I was a neighbor and dear friend of his brother Jim's in Pawtucket. When Jim's first wife tragically died of cancer herself Dan was right there to help in every way possible. He rode the bus to be there when the kids got home from school and relieved Grandma Tish and Grampa Austin(and Jim) whenever the need called. They could count on Dan and he emulated family. He adored Kyle, Ryan and Anna. And I heard tonight at his wake he's been known to call his mother 20x a day to check on her since she moved out on her own at 80 years old!!! and if she didn't answer he'd also been known to call 911 to check on her.
A good man who by the way, always made me smile - Peace be with you Dannyboy-

Dear Mrs. Daley, Jim and the Daley family,
I want you to know just how much Danny meant to me all these years. Back in 1973 I was a lost high school senior with no clue as to what purpose my life had. Dan helped me find my purpose and for that I will be eternally grateful.Dan was the first one to help me understand that Jesus died for my sins and because of His death for me, I could know that I would go to heaven when I died.Because of Danny's influence, I accepted Jesus as my savior in the sping of 1973..Thanks to God using Dan as a messenger of His grace, I am a follower of Jesus today.
A few years ago, just after Jim and Kathy's wedding I followed through on contacting Dan again and had an opportunity to re-kindle our friendship and spend a few hours on the phone in some always passionate conversations. We also met one day and shared a few moments together at one of the many community organizations Danny was so committed to.
I'm proud to have had the privelage of calling Danny friend. I will live my life remembering the commitment he invested in all he believed in.
He loved the Lord his God with all his soul, all his mind and all his strength.
He also loved all of you,his family and he longed for all family and friends to come to know his Lord and Savior as he did with pasion and unswerving devotion.
He will be missed by many. But,I'm convinced that Jesus has said to him already,"Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!"
With gratefulness and love,
Donna

Dan was a student in several of my classes at Rhode Island College during his Masters Program in Counseling. Some students touch your heart in a special way and Dan was certainly one of those students. Dan was one of the most committed students I ever met.
I got to know Dan not only as a very dedicated student but as a person who was extraordinarily passionate and committed to what he believed.
We met frequently to discuss course work, but we also shared personal anecdotes and stories. Dan always spoke from the heart whether discussing an issue in class or chatting more casually after class.
It was obvious when listening to him that he was committed to raising awareness about social injustices in the world and reaching out to the less fortunate. It was a privilege to have had Dan in class and to have been touched by someone who was so passionate about what he did.
Dan’s commitment to his religion seemed to be his guiding light and the real source of his dedication to others. He spoke with a degree of certainty and serenity when he reflected on the meaning and purpose of his life. A casual academic discussion could quickly become philosophical and before you knew it Dan was sharing a deep insight or observation about what really mattered most in life. I found that in many of our conversations, I was the student and he was the teacher.
We at Rhode Island College have been touched by a special person who sought to make a difference in the world in both big and small ways. We will all miss him greatly but will forever be reminded of his presence and passion for striving to make a difference in the world, as we continue to strive to make a difference in the lives of the students we teach- we know Dan made a difference in our lives.
God bless you Dan

My condolences to Dan's family. I worked in Campus Ministry at RIC and now in SCG. I would keep a stash of Air Heads candies in my desk that were only for Dan. He would come in now and again for that and conversation. I was so proud of him when he graduated. I remember seeing him and saying goodbye and good luck. I will miss him very much.

To Tish, Jim, Kathy, Marikate, Kyle, Ryan & Anna,
Our thoughts, our prayers and our hearts are with you. Danny loved God with great courage and he loved life with great humility. We will certainly miss Danny, especially in the summer, as he called to say hello and asked us to join him at Mass. Dan is an incredible example of a man who worked hard to reach his goals under the goodness and grace of God.
Our love and friendship always,
Paul, Laurie, Paul and Albert McCarthy
