Donald Davidson Obituary

DAVIDSON, DONALD J., 80, of Emmett Lane died Monday, January 31 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice In-Patient Center, Providence. He was the husband of Alice (King) Davidson. Mr. and Mrs. Davidson were married 54 years this past September 9.

Born in Providence, a son of the late David and Louise (Whitcher) Davidson, he had lived in Cumberland for the past 49 years.

Mr. Davidson was an engineering manager for Texas Instruments, Attleboro for 35 years, retiring in 1989. He had previously worked at the Grinnell Corp. and Gorham Manufacturing Co.

He was a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church, Cumberland; the North Attleboro Historical Society; a member and past treasurer of the Blackstone Valley Historical Society; a member, past treasurer and past president of the Community-Ites of Cumberland; a member of the Pawtucket Chapter of the AARP and the Primrose Grange, North Smithfield.

A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army and the United States Army Reserve retiring with the rank of Major in 1965. He was a life member of VFW Post #10213, Lincoln.

Mr. Davidson was active in Boy Scouts all his life. When his troop in Providence was without a leader, he took over the troop as probably one of the youngest ever scoutmasters. He continued to serve that troop, and when he was stationed at Fort Devens, he was an assistant Scoutmaster there. After moving to Arnold Mills, he soon became Boy Scoutmaster, a position he held for many years.

He was a very successful fundraiser for the Boy Scouts in their Friends of Scouting program, was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award and served many years on the Executive Board of Narragansett Council. He was also a member of the Fleur-de-lis Club.

He enjoyed singing with the Greenville Goldenaires of Smithfield.

Besides his wife, he is survived by 3 sons, James B. Davidson of Uxbridge, MA, Richard A. Davidson of Warren and Dean S. Davidson of Barrington; 2 daughters, Margery D. Jones of Cranston and Barbara H. Casciano of Norwalk, CT; 4 granddaughters and 3 grandsons.

The funeral service, with military honors, will be held Saturday, February 5 at 11 A.M. at the Arnold Mills United Methodist Church, Nate Whipple Highway, Cumberland. Burial will be in Arnold Mills Cemetery, Cumberland.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call at BELLOWS-FALSO FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln Friday 5-8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Davidson's memory to the Lewy Body Dementia Assn., Inc., P.O. Box 11390, Tempe, AZ 85284-0024 would be appreciated. Margie,

I was sorry to read of your father’s passing. So across the span of many years, this note is sent to convey my deepest sympathies to you and your family. While the loss of a parent can evoke feelings of profound sadness, the depth of one’s Faith and the love and support of family and friends will always transcend such moments. I would know you to possess an abundant wealth of all three; I simply add my thoughts and prayers. Your father was a true gentleman, a man respected and respectful, who has assuredly been warmly welcomed Home.
