Dorcas O'Connor Obituary

O'CONNOR, DORCAS E., 75, formerly of River Heights Drive, Wakefield, died Thursday. She was the wife of the late John 'Jack' O'Connor.

Born in Huntington, WV, she was a daughter of the late Hugh J. and A. Muriel (Dunne) Fraser. The family later moved to New York City area and resided in Larchmont, NY. After attending local Ursaline schools, she matriculated to the College of New Rochelle, NY, graduating as class valedictorian in 1953.

In the South County area, she worked for several years as the pastoral assistant at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Narragansett, and also taught religious education at her parish, St. Thomas More, Narragansett. She was a long-time volunteer at South County Hospital.

She is survived by eight children; Siobhan M. O'Connor, MD, of Atlanta, GA, Mara K. Cole of Scituate, John F. O'Connor of North Smithfield, Allyn M. O'Connor of Chicago, IL, Meghan M. Dierks, MD, of Boston , MA, Kristan M. O'Connor of Charlestown, Justin P. O'Connor of Fort Worth, TX and Lauren E. O'Connor of Rockville, MD; six grandchildren, Emily and Aileen Cole, Kaley O'Connor, Henning and Graeme Dierks and Shyam O'Connor; a sister, M. Joan Gately of Westerly.

The funeral will be at 8:45 AM Saturday from the AVERY-STORTI Funeral Home, 88 Columbia Street, Wakefield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland Street, Narragansett. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale. Visiting hours will be Friday 4-7 PM. averystortifuneralhome.com.
