Southern New England -and way beyond - has lost a fair, honest, and dedicated businessperson in Fred Darling. I worked for Fred and his folks for nine years, through high school & college and found Fred to be a 'chip off the old block(s)' of dad Carl & mother Eileen. All were great to work for in the restaurant, the outdoor ice cream stand, & even banging nails in motel building during my school vacations. My heartfelt thanks to the Darling families for these great opportunities to pay for my education, and my sympathy to the passing of a Seekonk icon. Dick Wolfe, Ocala, FL

I want to express my deepest sympathy to the Darling family. Fred left a mark on Seekonk like so few before him. From his souped up '38 Ford coupe with it's 1951 Olds engine challenging so many unsuspecting drivers along Fall River Ave back in the 1950's to his development of that large area of his Fall River Avenue - Highland Avenue properties. A true pillar of the community Fred Darling has made Seekonk a much better place today because of his entrepreneurship. He shall forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched through his friendship and generosity . God Bless him and may he rest in peace.

I spent a few Summers working at the restaurant and gift shop as a teenager with my Uncle Scott and Aunt Gloria. I would clean shrimp, pick up papers in the parking lot and fry bacon at 5am with my Uncle and would see Mr. Darling many times. Traveling the Country when I would met some one from R.I. I would ask if they knew Eileen Darlings Restaurant, the answer was always yes. God Bless Gary S. Beckett Eden, NY

Fred was a generous and loving man. Sixteen years ago he opened his heart and his restaurant for a benefit to assist us after Mike's racing accident and his contributions to NEMA were numerous. You have our sincere sympathy. Patty and Mike Favulli.

I knew Fred since EPHS. I remember the fast cars he loved to drive. He always told me that he would take care of his end of Warren Avenue and I would be responsible for my end, from the Young China Restaurant to Broadway. We kept the EP police quite busy. Will miss Fred very much.

So sorry for your loss. I am the new Director at the Newman YMCA and I understand that Fred was one of the founders of this Y. His vision has made a huge impact on the comunity as the Y now serves over 5,000 members and hundreds of children in enrichment after school programming.
