Haig Chopoorian Obituary

CHOPOORIAN, HAIG 'MICKEY' , 97, former owner and administrator of the Riverview Nursing Home, Coventry from 1956 until retiring in 1972, died Thursday at the Mansion Nursing Home, Central Falls. He was the husband of the late Lucille (Beausoleil) Chopoorian.

Born in Husenig, Harpoot, Armenia, a son of the late Hagop and Kahtoon (Krekorian) Chopoorian; he came to this country with his family in 1920, settling in Providence. He was a survivor of the 1915 Armenian Genocide in Turkey. Well known and loved in the Armenian Community, he was a member of the Armenian Euphrates Evangelical Church, the Knights of Vartan, the Armenian Missionary Association, and past committee member of the Armenian Martyr's Memorial Committee. He was a past president of the RI Nursing Home Association and a past chairman of his churchs board of trustees.

He leaves a son Ronald H. Chopoorian, Sr. and daughter-in-law Kathleen M. Chopoorian of Cranston; eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Carole R. Grant and brother of the late Maritza Depoyan, Veronica Malootian, Edward Chopoorian, and Andrew Chopoorian.

His funeral will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Greenwood, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95) with a Service in the Armenian Euphrates Evangelical Church, 13 Franklin Street, Providence at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Tuesday 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Armenian Euphrates Evangelical Church, 13 Franklin St., Providence, RI 02903 in his memory.
