Hazel Dew Obituary

DEW, HAZEL E. (WILLCOX), age 94, formerly of Arthur Street, Warwick, died on Friday, March 11, 2011, at Coventry Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Coventry. She was the wife of the late John J. "Jimmy" Dew. Born in Providence, the daughter of the late George E. and Vivian (Benjamin) Willcox, she lived in Warwick for most of her life. Active in her church, she was a member of the United Baptist Church in Providence, where she served as treasurer for over 30 years, and later Pawtuxet Baptist Church in Cranston, where she also participated on numerous committees. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara J. Cockcroft and her husband Edward, of Stoughton, MA, and Carolyn J. Darr and her husband Michael, of West Hartford, CT; two grandchildren, Linda Slotnick and Steven Cockcroft; and four great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late George E. Willcox, Jr., Raymond Willcox, and Kenneth Willcox. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 16, at 9 a.m. from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick, with a service at 10 a.m. in Spring Green Memorial Church, 1350 Warwick Avenue, Warwick. Visiting hours are Tuesday 4-7 p.m. Burial will be in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, RI Chapter, 245 Waterman Street, Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906.

I have many fond memories of Hazel. I learned a lot from her. Her kind, gentle and accepting way always made her a pleasure to be around. She was a good friend and a true lady. I will miss her.
